Device Manager: Divice #3 (how to get rid of it)

I installed new drivers for my network card, but first I uninstalled the old drivers and utility program from add/remove programs. Now after installing the new drivers/utility program it showed as adapter #2. This has happened with other things in the past, and usually uninstalling the device from the Device Manager and letting it refind it would fix it. This time it didn't because it's now showing up as adapter #3.

How do I get it back to normal? I know it's not affecting the performance of the device, but it drives me crazy. I searched the registry and found entries for the old device, #2 and #3, but they can't be deleted.

Like they say, third time's a charm. I uninstalled and reinstalled it for a thrid time and now it's showing up normal like I wanted.
