Determining status of processor?

Hello, I just brought a Intel 630 processor and other parts to build a new rig. When I put it in my mobo, and install everything, it wont start. At first I thought it was the mobo, but tried everything that anyone could think of and it wouldnt work. So right now im trying to exchange the BIOS chip for a new one as the board was used when brought and hoping I will get it to boot up. I have low doubts though that a a new BIOS chip will work. Im really assuming its the mobo as it was used as all. So im thinking of getting a new mobo. Is there a way though to determine if the processor is dead? When I put it in the mobo and turned it on, the processor does get hot, and everything turns on(fans, cd drives, hard drives, etc, just no picture). Tried 3 video cards that work in this rig, but doesnt work in this new one, so its not a video problem. I just want rule out dead processor so I feel better when I order a brand new mobo.

I dont want to exchange processors with this rig im in now, because its a HP and there is seal, so if it needs warrenty they can tell its been tampered with. I wouldnt care much about a warrenty, but once this new one is up, im selling this rig to a friend, and with the warrenty, I can sign it over to my friend. Plus this mobo isnt compatible with the 6xx series as HP didnt release a BIOS update for this model to support them.

Any other way to rule out the processor so I can feel better when I order this new mobo?
 
You said it yourself...The motherboard isn't compatible with 6xx series processors. If you knew this why did you buy it...

You can look to see if you can find the mothreboard OEM and try to flash the bios with that.

Well...I can see someone making that choice. My old 440BX was only supposed to support a P3 550, but I had a Celeron 1.3@1.6 running in it with some modifications ;)
 
I think he was talking about his current computer not being compatable, not the used motherboard that he tried the processor on in the first place.

Only way to tell if the CPU is dead is to try it... which would require another motherboard, not sure what else you can do.

Anyways, at first it sounds to me like a cmos or bios issue, did you clear CMOS before starting with the new CPU? If so, did you inpect the board for any burns? How about the CPU bottom? Any cracked caps? Could be a number of reasons, if you could test it out on another rig or have a shop take a gander at it and the board maybe they could figure it out.
