Determine Sata 3

You don't have SATA 6.0Gb/s since the motherboard doesn't have SATA 6.0GB/s at all. You are getting lower read and write speeds with the SATA 3.0Gb/s (by as much as 25%) but it won't affect the random read/write speeds of a SSD, the true performance metrics of a SSD. In other words, unless you're constantly transferring large amounts of data to and from the SSD, you probably won't notice a difference between SATA 6.0Gb/s and SATA 3.0Gb/s when it comes to overall system responsiveness.
 
And to add to Danny, some x58 boards did have Marvel based 6 Gbps ports, but they were not equal to native Intel 6 Gbps ports on the new chipset boards. It has been recommended on these forums that even if you had the 6 Gbps Marvel ports to actually use the 3 Gbps native Intel ports. Again, like stated, you probably wouldn't really notice a difference between 3 Gbps and 6 Gbps port in real world use, and it would only be shown in bench mark numbers...
 
A friend of mine with the same SSD as mine, gets almost 500 mb/s seq reads while i get only 270 mb/s.
Are you saying almost 200 MB/s reads are not noticable, ? Coz then it wont be worth to upgrade. Are these not what you call random reads btw ? He has ASRock P67 PRO3 which in fact has sata 6.0.

If i want to upgrade to get the same benchmarks, all i have to look for SATA 6.0GB/s correct ? I wont be transferring large data constanstly, just interested in boot and apps but i guess it nice to get the most out of ur hardware.

No. Random read/writes are different from straight reads and straight writes. Read HardOCP reviews of SSDs for more info on what makes a SSD a good performer.

You'd also have to make sure that you're actually getting SATA 6.0Gb/s as some controllers don't actually provide SATA 6.0Gb/s level of bandwidth.
 
@Danny; Okay fair enough. In other words those numbers are insignificant for the average user and we could say 200 mb/s is enough. I try not to look at benchmarks but i cant help it. Out of curiosity , I used AS SSD benchmarks where does this state random reads or is there another app ?
