Detecting Optimal Frequencies

I have a BGF 6800U OC, which I paid a shedload of cash for, so I'm a bit protective of it. I am also interested in overclocking, because presumably like most on this forum, I want a bit more for my money.

I don't think I'll be touching it for a few months, but purely out of curiosity, I ran the Coolbits detect optimal frequency, to see what it would offer. It wasn't hugely impressive:
Core 440
Memory a paltry 1.13

How accurate is the 'detect optimal frequencies' function? If it's normally close to the mark, it doesn't look like I'll have much scope for the future :-(
 
Nah, I would ignore it. The only way to find out how far your card will go is to do it manually. I don't know what kind of bs algorithm they use to detect optimal frequencies, but it doesn't work.
 
I think its a good safe bet. I've never had a card fail at the autodetect frequency.

Though you can often push it further than the autodetect. But its usually not a whole lot further. So I think its a great tool, especially for beginners.
 
I tried the auto detect on my GT and it kept going and going and my PC locked up :eek:

I just keep it around 415 / 1.15 for 3d and it works fine at that, much more and im voltage limited.
 
The Detect Optimal Frequencies seems to give reasonable, safe overclocks without being TOO conservative. It isn't the end-all and be-all, just a reasonable starting point.
 
Mine did 600 core and 1400 memory rofl! Soo yeah i don't trust it...
 
I believe that the Detect Optimal Frequencies option detects the frequencies based on the core temperature at the time when you press the button.

600 core??!!!!! wow, who's the manufacturer for your card man?

the point is its a glitch in the program. not even BFG could get the Ultra's running at 470mhz reliably, ive ready several accounts of instability, and they have been put out of production
 
ok Fresh 5900XT auto detected to 450/940 Oced manually to 460/965
new Bios and Watercooling! now auto detects to 514/940 but ocs manually to 504/975 quite the numbers for a budget part! yet i could get the GPU to pass the test all the way up to 525 i get artifacts startin just a bit @506 funny thing is it allways Auto detects 508-514 but that isnt stable :(

I also had this happen to me numerous times and I realised that I had it overclocked just a tad to begin with. I now know it has to be default core/memory or it will just keep going and going and going till BAM lockup.
