Desktop Messed Up after changing Resolution

I tried to change the resolution on my Buffalo Linux Desktop to 1024x768@85. The result is a
matrix type pattern. I know it has something to do with /etc/XII directory but which file and how to fix it I don't have a clue. :confused:
