This is in Toronto, Canada. A small computer store opened next door to where I work. They have four different desktops all for under $300CDN. They all come with 1gig DDR2-667 ram, a 160gig hard drive, a LG 18x DVD writer, and processors from P4's to C2D's, and some AMD ones that I didn't bother to look at. The cheapest one is a P4 2.8Ghz for $229CDN +tax.

Everything is upgradeable. I upgraded from the stock motherboard (no PCI-E) to an ASRock ConRoe1333-D667 for only $40. I also bumped up the hard drive to a 7200rpm 250gig for $20. Upgrading to 500gig is $80. I think the only "downside" is that the base motherboard (and the one I upgraded to) are micro ATX instead of ATX, but I'm sure you can upgrade to ATX too.

They have a website: www.bsq.ca, but the summer deals don't seem to be on their website. Their new location where I found these deals isn't even up on the website yet. I can't remember their exact address, but it's 160something Eglinton Ave. East, barely 2 blocks away from Yonge and Eglinton. It's on the north side of the street.

Of course these are not amazing gaming rigs, but for $229 base, I just had to pick up one to play with. :)

I don't see anything like that on their website. In fact, all I see are overpriced products.

1 x P4 640 / 3.2 GHz, RAM 512 MB, HD 1 x 80 GB, DVD, Gigabit Ethernet, Win XP Pro, Monitor : none $1000? lol?

Yeah, I already mentioned in my original post that the deals don't seem to be on their website. I didn't even know about it until a coworker walked in with a $229 desktop under each arm the other day for the office.

Edit: I got P4 631 3.0, 1gig DDR2-667, 7200 250gb, dvd writer, asrock conroe1333-d667 motherboard all for $299+tax. Their online prices do seem outrageous.

Bleh, I don't know how it is in the states, but I checked the big Canadian online sites, and couldn't configure a similar system without spending almost $100 more at least.
