I'm trying to help my mom set up her Windows machine (at home) to act more like the Mac OS X machines that she uses a lot when she travels. In Mac OS X (and Linux GNOME), when you insert a removeable device (like a USB mass storage device or iPod or the like), a desktop icon is created that is a shortcut to the device.
Is there a simple and straightforward way to replicate this behavior under Windows XP? I know that WinXP will show you the "what action should I take" dialog, but I need it to go beyond just that and make an icon on the desktop for rapid access to the device.
i've hit google and not found anything that really does this. i've found a couple of tools that do it, but the tools must themselves be installed on the removeable device with an autorun.ini file configured to execute them upon insert. i need to make this work with _any_ removeable device.
thanks in advance all.
