Are the hitachi Deskstars still known as the Dealthstar?

I was planning on getting some drives and they are currently the leader on the leaderboard at SR.

only the the one series was, the newer drives are better by far, I know of 4 that have been running non-stop for several years now. I believe it was the 75gxp series. I run 85 gxp's, 80 gig's for along time now.

They haven't been "Deathstars" for many years now, it was a few certain models and the issue was identified and corrected a long time ago. No worries in buying any recent Deskstar drive.

I believe the company also changed hands from IBM to Hitachi during that time.

It was the 75GXPs... I had one. Even lasted until about a year ago, then came the click of death. I knew what it was as soon as I heard it. Sad day.

:Knocks on wood:

45 gig 75GXP 6 years running. With the fatal Mitsubishi chip.

-The new ones are solid. After this model and the 60GXP in like 2000-2002 they became good again.

Hitatchi makes some of the most reliable drives. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
