I have narrowed down my choices to these two, within my budget and needs.
The laptop is a Core i3 vs. Dual-core +1GHZ.
HDD isnt the issue as I use external. RAM is same, both have DVD.
Ifcourse, I need a monitor for the desktop, but it's bigger by 5" than laptop's.
For real long trips (5+ days) I could use the laptop, but heck if I go on vacation then
I need a break from the net... unless it's a business trip.

Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader
10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet
Windows 8 (64-bit)
$400 [+$120 20" monitor]
BTW, looks like DVDs as back-up media are dying in favor of BDs. Eventhough, for the same price you get more GBs with DVDs:
100 DVDs(438gb) - $20
BD 25gb - 15pack(375gb) - $20
losing 63GBs, not much but considering cost of BD burner($120), I'll stick with DVDs until
prices have dropped by 50%.
