I got this desk for Christmas a couple of years ago. Over time and me being a little rough with it, the top has worn off. It's not a solid wood desk, and it just had some kind of black topping on it[like a sticker, but kind of not]. I want to do something to make it look better, but I'm not sure what I should do.

That's what part of the desk looks like. I thought about sanding then painting it, then maybe topping it off with a thin layer of plexi or something. Just wanted some opinions on what I should do. What about something similar to what's used to top counters?

man thats a really good idea.. imagine putting like 1/4" plexi all over the entire top surface of your desk, but make the top side of it frosted by sanding or some other method, then drill some small holes into the plexi and put a buch of blue or red led's into it.. your whole desktop would glow lol :)

Dude, unless your really hellbent on keeping the desk, chunk it and get a new one. I bought a decent one from Wal-Mart for 60 bucks, metal tubing with presswood. Other than that, get creative, but dont bother sanding that presswood you have, it will crumble before it does anything else. Try getting some countertop material and the glue for it, and use that. Or, the plexi isnt a bad idea either.

Again, I do stress getting rid of it and buying another.
