Demystify Crossfire Bridge Please!

Hi all,

I recently got another 4850 in my rig,
set up Crossfire as per,
my Sapphire came with a Crossfire bridge but my Palit didn't come with one.

I only used one Crossfire bridge, but it seemed to work.

Now I have a reason to suspect that I actually need two bridges for this??

For example, I am not getting enough FPS in Farcry2 in some benchmarks as I have hoped, compared to others. Simply put, there are people getting higher FPS than I am getting with a single 4850. (and I have the hotfix with 8.10)

I tried searching for this subject and I must admit, I fail at searching...

Maybe it could be my lower end CPU causing a bottleneck perhaps?

Not sure, i'm using 2 bridges on my crossfire setup. Might be worth it to order another bridge and test it out.
 
yeah I've heard reports that go either way, so i am not really sure...
A bridge is like $10 extra =(

ALL4AMD, do YOU have 1 or 2 bridges?
 
if a 4870x2 cf only requires one bridge then i suspect one bridge is all you need. the second peg was really only intended for cf with more than 2 gpus. i call bullshit on anyone suggesting cf requires 2 bridges if one bridge is what ati engineers intended.
 
ATI recommends running two bridges if your running at a really high resolution. Ive tried a single and dual bridge and havent noticed any benefits to running two.
 
That's what I was thinking, two bridges will only be for Trifire and up, only way to hook up three cards would be to use one bridge each for two cards.

I must come to a conclusion that low FPS in Farcry 2 is actually from my CPU then. Still, it's kinda discouraging to see 4850CF losing to a single 4850 lol.
