Thinking about getting a delta fan because of their high cfm.Has anyone here ever used a delta fan and just how loud are they?

I still have (but haven't used for a long time) a Delta 80mm fan that went on a SocketA Alpha cooler (back in the day). It was 8k RPM, and was about 60dB. I got it because it moved over 100CFM in an 80mm package. However, everyone but me hated it.

Good lord that thing was annoying. Sounded like a damn turbine when you started up your computer :p

I guess I really don't know what 60 db sounds like. The loudest thing currently in my case is a zalman cnp9700 on full speed trying to cool the inferno also known as qx6700.Will 60 decibels be a lot louder than that? And thanks for the responses.

It's often not the turbulence, but the pitch of the noise. The loudest fan I ever had a was a 92mm Vantec Tornado, which put out 119CFM at 56dBA. Needless to say, it was relegated to a 7 volt line for the rest of its life ;)

Another thing to remember is that not all decibal recordings are to be treated equally, and under almost no circumstances should they be used to compare noise between manufacturers.

Now if you really want to have fun with a Delta... this would be the one to get. If even Delta calls this one "Drastic"ally powerful, then you know you have something truly Godlike in your hands... :D

... Yes, that's 8,000RPM on a 92mm fan.

They're loud. For most people they're too loud and it annoys them. If you have head phone on it's not bad though. It's like having a window fan next to you.

youre right it's the PITCH fo a fan that makes it irritating, I find panaflos and scythe s flex to offer good CFM and decent fan noise because they are ball bearing and have fluid dynamic/hydrowave bearings.........very well lubricated so they do not have a high pitched whine, they are very low pitched and not bothersome.

Delta fans are great, hard working, last long but they are louder, deltas and tornados offer the absolute best in cooling though, amazing cooling!!!!

Hehe.. I had an Aplha cooler for an old Slot-A CPU I had... that sucker had 2 60mm Delta fans on it... rated at 60db.

I also had one of them Socket-A Alpha coolers with the Delta fan on it... the Slot-A cooler was louder.

Some of the less "extreme" Delta fans aren't that bad, I've got two in my case now. One is a 92x38mm 4,000rpm model rated for 80cfm at 46db and the other is a 120x38mm 2,000rpm rated 76cfm at 34db.

I run them at full-speed all the time, they're no louder than any other fan, and they still offer most of the cooling the insane models have. Probably within a 2-3c difference.

The 2 130cfm fans are 120mmx38mm and rated at 48 decibels so I think I can live with that.

Put the two 130 cfm delta fans in today.1 inside blowing across the motherboard and 1 for exhaust at the rear of the case. The sound at full speed is noticeable but not unbearable. They are replacing 67cfm papst fans.At 3/4 speed they are just as quiet as the papst fans and still dropped temps 5-7 degrees across the board. When your trying to cool an 8800 gtx and a qx6700 every little bit helps. As I suspected my air flow was the problem.
