i'm buying a 1704FPT from dell canada tomorrow.. i'm wondering about:

1. return policy in general (like just returning it without any reason)
2. dead pixels

For both questions, do i have to pay shipping?

1. the no hassle return policy is 30 days here in Canada (instead of 21 like the US) because things take longer to ship here, of course

2. within the 30 days, you can return it for whatever reason you want. you just have to call the tech people first (before customer care) and convince them that the pixels distract you

If you ask them for free shipping, you should get it. Dell almost always waives the shipping.

Just realize if you return the monitor you'll be chatting with someone from either the Phillipines or India and it ain't no picnic. Believe me, I know (two 2001fps returned.....it was like getting your teeth pulled without anesthetic). They no speaka english gud and no understand it gud. And they tried to nail me with a restocking fee. Needless to say, when I get their customer survey I'll let 'em have it. Steve is correct with the return policy and shipping. No cost to you. You get three weeks in the US...don't know about other countries.

ah ok good to hear. oh and also, does anyone know if dell charges shipping for lcd deliveries? i went to their site and did that "calculate shipping and GST" thing, and it only showed like $20 for gst, but $0.00 for shipping. does this mean i get free shipping? Also i'm thinking of ordering tomorrow (friday), does anyone know if they process orders/ship over the weekend?

Unless you buy from Dell Small Business - I've only reached customer care and technical support representatives based in North America (various States and Alberta, Canada).

No shit, those dot heads kill me. I requested a new 2001FP via email and the English is just lame. The first dot head told me dead pixels are normal. I sent another email and the next dot head sent me a new one no prob (well as far as I can tell by the Inglish).

Fuck Michael Dell, pull your head out DUDE!

Well if the indian call centre staff are dot heads then I guess that makes you a d**k head then doesn't it! :D Thankfully you aren't giving American posters in general a bad name, just pre-pubescant 14 year old Americans.

If you are having difficulty understanding the indian call centre staff then you can quite rightly 'have a go' at Michael Dell for out sourcing but insulting the Indian call centre staff is uncalled for IMHO.

I guess being an Irish poster, that makes me a shamrock head or a potato head or something!! :D

Mods: I do appologise for my first posting involving confrontation with an existing poster. I have been lurking following the 2405FPW threads and hadn't registered as yet because I hadn't received my monitor.

I was going to wait to register till I had the unit and could make some constructive posts until I read the last posters comments. I had to register straight away and reply.

Appologies.

I don't think it's asking too much for whoever is on the other end to be able to communicate at a minimum level that makes resolving an issue pain free. I can and do hold Dell accountable, and I can hold the idiot on the other end accountable for not being able to do their job.

Go make some curried potatoes for me asswipe.

Eric - while I fully agree that the overseas tech support can be bad (and a lot of the time is), they ARE doing the best they can considering they don't have a very good command of the english language. I've had to deal with them before, and sometimes it's awful, once in a while, it is not. It's not their fault, it is Dell's fault for not wanting to pay people at home. Right?

Don't you think you're being just a tad offensive/racist about the whole thing?

Don't blame the Indian folks for wanting a decent paying job to support their family. They are just trying to earn an honest wage. If you are patient and have a good attitude going in to the call, you will have a much better experience. Their english isn't so bad, its the inflection and cadence of thier speech thats a little hard to get used to. Just be patient with them and firiendly, iI garanty that you will get more help that way than if you have a nasty attitude.

Wow Eric, you are a credit to your parents.

Didn't know Washington State had trailer parks or that white trash knew how to use the internet.

I haven't had any issues understanding their outsourced reps. All of the ones I've dealt with spoke/understood english quite well. Their service is however far from great... I've been waiting about 30 days for my refund on an (UNOPENED) monitor. The only way I was able to get it taken care of was getting with DELL-Chandler on the forums.

If you haven't dealt with Dell customer service yet, don't underestimate the anger (and I mean truely PO'd, red faced, exasperated anger) of those of us that have. For example..... Dell dispatched UPS to pick up my 2001fp Wednesday. I remember three times repeating to them my address. Yesterday I get a call from someone else in my organization....UPS is down the street and they can't find me. No wonder.....the info Dell gave them was my name company name, city, state, zip. No street address....none. Just my company name repeated twice on in their log books. In a call to Dell the day before they insisted on charging me a restocking fee (I had not kept the unit more than two weeks)....I had to get to a manager there to cancel that. They've sent two UPS people to pick up the same package. One to my home, with a shipping label, one to my work, without. I tell them specifically not to send someone to my home, and they did it twice with two different 2001fps. Then there are you conversations with these guys.....poor telephone connections, they don't speak clearly, they don't understand you well. Then you tell yourself, forget about phone conversations, I'm gonna do a text chat with them (good idea 'cause you can record it). About ten minutes in you get a message that the Dell server is overloaded and you lose you connection. Happened to me three times. Reconnect again and start from scratch. Get the picture?

I don't have a problem with Eric saying "***k Michael Dell", I wouldn't have a problem with him saying "***k the Dell Call Centre ****wits"! I have a problem with him bring a racial element into it . Dot Heads!! FFS Eric  I hate Political Correctness and think the term racist is bandied around too much but, I dunno the term he used for the Indian staff just rubbed me the wrong way. For some reason it reminds me of that horrible term used to describe Arabs ie. Sand ............

I fully expect to be banned for confrontational expletive laden first posts and for taking the thread OT but Cest la Vie! ( a French phrase Eric! I must be a dirty frog lover too huh!!)

What happens if you just flat out say you're having a hard time understanding them and wish to speak to one of their higher ups?

It is so easy...

1- If you find a dead pixel and are in doubt if it is covered tell them you think you can see 15 arround the middle..

2- They pick up screen and never question you because they're so big things just get lost.

3- You are "A Happy Dell Customer"... You are happy? No? Here's £100.

I have gotten nine (yes nine) $100 concession coupons from Dell the past year. Dell is so huge they do not know what one division is doing versus the other. Is it annoying at times? Yes. But my friends cannot believe the sick deals that I get from them over and over.

Just yesterday I went on Dell chat to get another 5% back on my 2005fpw (making it $389) and the first chat I got a $35 off $35.01 coupon, Thought I could do better so I tried again and on the second chat I got the $37.45 (5%) credited to my DPA card and the $35 coupon still is good. So now I can order a PSP game for $4.99 with free shipping. I Love Dell :D

You get them when Dell screws up. The bigger the screwup the bigger the amount you get. The best was the X800 XT PE. I had two orders that got delayed over and over. So I got two $100 coupons for each one when I canceled. They forgot to cancel one of them and sure enough I got another $100 out of it. ;)

I've had nothing but non-stop screwups from Dell. everyone's getting 100$ concession coupons but me WTF ??? They've never given me squat. I, too, am fighting to get the money refunded to my CC from the refusal of a monitor (unopened!!). $1,050. They received it on March 10th and I've called twice already to moan and bitch at them (compare this to Amazon.com...I bitched to them about a return on Wednesday, they said never received it but crediting my card and it showed up on my CC Friday!). The first time they didn't even know what happened to it. Some of them I can't understand at all. The phone connection there is horrible and one of the calls the line kept cutting in and out for 20 minutes. I'm growing tired of it all.  Can read my previous 2001FP fiasco here http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1026836732&postcount=91

I'm going to call up and see if they'll credit some money to my CC for all my trouble and give me some of these concession coupons, too. Knowing my luck with them I probably won't get jack.

oh well as much as I'm mad at Dell.... <3 my 2405

I know what you mean Cheval. I sent back my 2001fp on Friday and today Dell sends me an email notice that they will be picking it up at my home in the next 24-48 hours. I email them back telling them of this fact along with the UPS tracking number. It's a continuing comedy of errors. Not only is there no shipment to pickup but I have told them repeatedly to not pick up anything at my home because I'm at work. I just want to get my refund finally and be done with them forever. Their incompetence wastes hours of my time turns me into a miserable beeatch.

I feel for you but their incompetence has benefited me greatly the past year. Yes I had to take time out and do Dell chats. I have ordered a Gig of Ram, a 200gig Hard Drive, a Klipsch 2.1 system and other stuff all for a fraction of their costs thanks to the concession codes. Not to mention the price mistakes I find on Fatwallet.com. I got a loaded Dell 8400 with a X800 XT for $400 after rebates and selling the 17” Flat Panel. My latest deal from them I got the 2005fpw for $389.30.

I will deal with the headaches if the deals keep coming like this.

I just got an email an hour ago stating that Dell credited me my money to my CC today and should show up on there in 2-3 days.

Still going to moan and bitchto them and hope that these concession coupons rain down on me like manna from heaven. Maybe some credit on my purchase, too...
