Dell restore CD's are BIOS locked....won't install on anything other than the system model they went to. I have one at work.....

I'd also point out that unless the original owner quit using his OS....it's basically an illegal copy.

FWIW - B.B.S.

Illegal, and your confusing a recovery CD with the OS installation CD.

yeah thats one of the problems when you buy a used computer, some people dont erase their OS, which means that two isntances are running.. How is microsoft ever going to control that?

They can't, and chances are it would never be discovered. However, it is illegal. The only time it would really be an issue is if someone with an illegal OS brings their PC in to Best Buy or another store for service, and can't produce the installation media. This has happened to many friends of mine. They aren't "reported" or anything like that, but the service request is refused.

only problem is that the disk is sealed in so i dont know if i should try and install it first too see if it works. im trying to get a copy of XP pro cuz the recovery disk i have from purchasing a cicero computer is horrible.....

No - you cant, it will only work on a dell system. And if you did load it onto another dell system you would still have to activate it.
