Dell U2711

You want me to open that pic in photoshop, and then take a pic of it with my camera?

Yea. It doesn't matter on the pic though. Just something from the photo gallery. Something you think looks good on the monitor. A similer shot to your previous ones. Thanks :)

Thanks for the pic Roadhog. Do you have access to photoshop? If so I wouldn't mind seeing a colourful photo displayed in that program. A pic from here would be best for comparison as I edited those on my broken nec glossy lcd. I'm concidering this monitor for photo editing and 3D design but I'm just a bit iffy on the grainy matte finish people are talking about. Thanks!

I can't get a good pic of it for some reason. Something with me lens or camera keeps making odd lines over the screen when I try to take a pic of it. None of the lines show up by just looking at. odd. Also, it looks dull when I take a photo of it. :S

Anyways, here is a pic.

Sorry... I thought the url was a joke for a sec as nothing showed up when I clicked the link. ;)

The pic helps though. It doesn't look that bad as long as those lines aren't visible in person. LCDs have weird patterns when you take pics of them. Did you do a level adjust? The bezel looks very black. Thanks. I wonder if I should wait for the Nec versions.

A level adjust? Like height? Yes, and rotate.

Probably going to buy one of these and then a pair of 2209WA's to flank it in portrait mode... fortunately I have a hookup, will be $1k total.

I live in Hong Kong, just found 2711 sell for approx. $685 USD, but US site list $1099?

Is the "made in china" main lower-price factor?

The US dollar is loosing value every day, thats why its cheaper for you over there.

After seeing 2 of them next to a 3008wfp, they look puny, but their massave resolution seems to make up for it because you can fit so much on their screens... Idk if I should have gotten 3 3008wfps, but not sure I had the desk space for that anyhow, its a squeeze with these three.

Just got my u2411s today and am seriously thinking about sending them back for 2 2711s...should have got them to begin with.

Thinking about ordering the u2711 but if it has dead pixels like my u2410 did which I ended up returning that makes me scared.

You guys that have purchased so far, no dead pixels from Dell?:D

With the screens side by side, do you notice if the image quality or text reading is better on the 2711 than the 3008?

TIA

Curious about this also. Is the AG coating the same between the 3008 and 2711 (grainy) ?

if you have shutter priority mode on your camera try a longer exposure (like 1/30 second or slower)

With CRT displays you would always have the scanning electron beam where you'd only get half of the image or whatever because the camera was taking the picture too fast.

Wonder if that might make a more "solid" looking background

EDIT on your Canon it would be "Tv" mode -- I think it stands for "time varying" or something like that. Most other cameras manufacturers tend to call it 'S' mode.

On a related note, what is Dell's policy towards dead pixels?.....

Cool calender. :p:D

Well the first u2410 I owned had a single stuck pixel, it was bright red on a white background and dark on any other color background other than blue. I couldn't find anything else wrong with the monitor and no color warping like some of the other 2410's I heard about on the forums.

I was able to exchange that one for another with no hassle other than finally talking to someone in India who I could understand. All the other exchanges has issues with them like a dark blotch on one side or the last one with multiple dead pixels it was annoying. Returned for refund!

Glad I did because now I can spend on this promising 2711.

What was the point of your post?

I'm not some "green movement" person but it's ridiculous watching people have "look how much money and electricity I can waste" contests. This is a trend with all these online tech sites like guru3d and this one. All these baby boomer generation people have midlife crises and go buy 4x SLI systems (everyone knows 4x sli is useless) and billions of other dollars in hardware that they don't even use and post pictures of it like HAHAHA LOOK WHAT I GOT.

uh.. oh.. everyone.. retard alert.. retard alert! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBPqksG9nbA

Someone sounds bitter he can't afford a setup like this. Why don't you just let people live their own lives? Could you try that? If someone wants to spend money on computer hardware, that's his choice. But maybe the other posters will refrain from posting to not offend your delicate eyes..

Thanks. Gives me some peace of mind - a least I can return replacements and the pixel policy is what very good as compared to, oh, Newegg.

I was particularily worried about returns since LG makes the panel and LG has some QC issues, IMO.

They were a pretty long exposure as it was, like 1/3 of a second.

Use a small aperture (=> high f-number).

Best regards

Since the pixel density is a bit higher on the u2711 some things can actually look a little blurryish on them when compared to the 3008wfp, but things don't scale too much smaller when moving them from the middle screen to the outers. I may need to tweak the sharpness a bit on the 2711s, though to get it where my eyes are comfortable. Granted, thats with windows 7's default 96 dpi on the text.

As far as the anti-glare coating is between the 30 and the 27s its pretty hard for me to tell a difference, the screens color on Adobe RGB look extremely similar, though the colors do look a tad brighter on the 3008wfp. Granted, my eye isn't trained all that well for differentiating those kinds of things.

Oh, and in response to ebolamonkey001, yeah you're absolutely right, I am wasting a lot of money, I have no professional reason for all that screen space, but you know what? I love it. Everyone wastes their money in some way- fat people on mountain dew and food, girls on makeup and shoes/handbags, some guys on golf clubs, some guys on expensive electric guitars they can't play- my indulgence just happens to be expensive computer hardware :-p.

So I bought a new 4 door sedan that gets 15 mpg (on good days), wasn't cheap, not good for the environment, but guess what, I love it, makes me happy :p If people enjoy something and can afford it, why should you care? the US is all about spending money on crap we don't need, if not for that we wouldn't have the technology we do today. For some people its a hobby, not just a look at me thing, but when you are proud of something you do want to show it off.

That and we are talking in a thread about a monitor that is retailing for $1100, not your typical thrifty hardware buyers in here...

Baby Boomer Generation? How out of touch are you? The Baby Boomers are 50+ now. How many folks in this thread are older than 50 and buying expensive monitor setups? There may be a few but I wouldn't generalize the people who buy awesome hardware as Baby Boomers...

Hey! I am over 50 and I buy the hell out of computer stuff. But I have been obsessed with computers sense the IBM PC first came out. Actually mainframes before that.

Anyway we all have a right to exercise are tasts and piss our money in any direction we want. Some people are just jealous.

Dave

I don't see what is wrong with people buying a $1000 monitor, when they spend way over that on their PC.
