I have the Dell U2711 and am wondering if it is worth upgrading to the U2713H.

edit: Removed the comparison. Whoever's gonna answer will probably know more than Dell.com

U2713H is brand new and there's no reviews at all yet so no one really knows. Unless the U2711 is missing / lacking something specific you think the U2713H will offer I can't see a real reason to swap between the two as they offer a similar feature set, specs, functions etc

Yeah, no reviews yet, but the U2713H is supposed to be the true successor to the U2711. Actually, both u2713s are, HM being the 8bit and H the 10bit version.

We know they use wide gamut LEDs and USB 3.0. They also use the newest generation IPS panels, probably 8bit + 2bit FRC. What's very probable is a lighter anti-glare (semi-matte) coating and no PWM. I say those two especially would be big improvements, but if those things didn't bother you before, there isn't much reason to upgrade.

the responce time on 2711 is 6ms
the responce time on 2713 is 8ms
to me thats a big difference....am i correct

In the spec on paper, yes, that's correct. But real world response times will vary. The U2711 had bad overshoot and some more recent screens like the U2713HM were much better in real use and didn't have any overshoot. We haven't seen yet how the U2713H is

Even on paper I wouldn't call 8ms vs 6ms a big difference really

People need to stop comparing the U2711 to the U2713HM. They are in completely different leagues in terms of panel quality, and I've seen a lot of confusion around the web thinking the U2713HM and U2713H are one and the same. They're not. The only true successor to the U2711 is the U2713H.

Here's the differences as we know of, right now:

U2711 official specs
Panel Type: H-IPS

* Screen Coating: Matte Anti-glare, light
* Color Processing: 8-bit
* Input Lag: 22.2ms
* PWM: No

* = based on TFT Central reviews.

Some might think the differences don't amount to much, but to color critical professionals, the differences are vast between the U2713H and the U2713HM. Note that the same arrangement applies to Dell's 24" solutions. There has been the U2410. The successor will be the U2413, with the lesser spec'd monitor being the U2412M.

Some of the most important specs that are of relevant concern to most users have yet to be determined for the U2713H, which are the screen coating, PWM, input lag, and color channel bits. These will come when TFT Central does their full out review.

EDIT 1: Added color and better formatting for easier eye-sorting.
EDIT 2: Updates...

It's not a 14-bit panel, it's 8-bit + FRC giving 1.07b colours. There is an extended LUT though

TFT central have confirmed on their twitter feed already that screen coating is light AG and does not show the cross hatching of the U2713HM either

How do you know it is 8-bit + FRC and not 10-bit? I think there is a good chance it is 10-bit since they have upgraded the internal harware.

There's hardly any true 10-bit modules and those which are around are very expensive. The U2410, U2711 and U3011 were all 8-bit +FRC. I suspect the panel spec sheet also confirms 8-bit +FRC. The LG 27EA83 is using the same panel as the U2713H as well and specifically lists that in their spec on the LG website

Regarding U3011, I once extensively searched the Internet and found one inquiry from someone else who had contacted Dell and they had confirmed it was 10-bit. Besides, every statement I have seen declaring it not being true 10-bit was only personal speculation not based on factual evidence. Nevertheless, just to assure myself, I also then called Dell and asked them if U3011 was true 10-bit or 8-bit + FRC and they confirmed it is a 10-bit display.So if this is not true, it means Dell openly lies about it.

Ok U3011 may be the exception. There are a few 10-bit 30" IPS panels around so there is chance the U3011 is 10-bit. I've also seen similar discussions across the net and now I think about it I'm pretty sure Dell stated that on their forums too. That aside, the smaller models have always been 8-bit+FRC and the U2713H should be no different

3011 is 8 bit+FRC. Expect to pay a few thousand for a true 10 bit display.

By now the usual implementation – without significant disadvantages even when passing a 10bit signal via DisplayPort. That means a panel with 10bit TMDS link to the internal electronic (which is based on a 14bit LUT in this case) and 8bit addressing precision. This panel and the smaller variants will of course be used in high end displays too. It is very unlikely that LG produces a 30" true 10bit AH-IPS panel with GB-r LED blu while the 24" and 27" versions are based on the described implementation (which is definitely the case). Because these panels behave like a true 10bit panel for the electronic the nomenclature is sort of inherently imprecise.

I remember in a forum (perhaps here if I remember correctly) an NEC representative confirmed PA301W is a 10 panel while PA271W is 8-bit + FRC. I am not quite aware of the difference in technical terms and how much advantage 10-bit has over 8-bit + FRC. Though I am curious if to learn it better if an expert is willing to explain.

I have U2410 now it's great.

wondering if i go U2711 or U2713H.....
would i see big defference? not too many gaming just photos internet cad programs
astronomy programs....
Thanks Guys

First I though of buying the 2713HM, but afterwards I saw Dell was releasing this new 2713H and it seems a good monitor.

DisplayPort 1.2 + MST, HDMI, DVI-DL, stereo audio output, USB 3.0 hub, 2560x1440, IPS with uniformity correction, 1:1 scaling option and matte coating.

It just has the right features, the only thing that could make it bad is the input lag but the 2713HM wasn't too bad and with 1:1 scaling maybe it improves a bit.

the u2711 has better image quality than the u2410 afaik.
and the u2713h has even better quality than the u2711. but you cant go wrong with the older u2711.

With the U2713H now more available in the market is it worth selling an RMA'd U2711 for?
