Dell U2711 Contrast Issue

Hi all. So, my Dell U2711 has suddenly gone wonky on me. I'm not sure if it's something I can repair; I was hoping someone on here with better knowledge of monitors can help me out.

So, the problem arises when I adjust the contrast. When it's set at 45(out of 100) or lower, everything seems fine and normal. But above that 45 level, it gives all the colors a neon glow. The whites turn to a dark grey and there are these vertical scan lines. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Can it be fixed? All I've done is reset to factory but that hasn't done a thing.

Reset the screen to factory default in the menu on the screen.

Check the white saturation on the test images here and adjust the contrast on the screen accordingly, so all squares are visible:

Thats at least a start if its caused by incorrect settings .

Its an old screen, so that the CCCFL backlight have begun yellowing might have caused this if its a hardware error. Then the screen needs to be recalibrated, preferably with a hardware calibrator. If you dont do any color sensitive work, you can get the white back a bit by changing the RGB (red, green and blue in the color temperature settings) balance in the monitor settings. It will screw up the gamma curve a bit though and might introduce some banding, so don´t adjust too much.
