IPS is a gimmick if you ask me =) Higher refresh rate is the way to go....

Unless you are a big gamer and motion bothers you a lot, IPS is generally preferred. It's certainly not a gimmick.

The problem with the Dell 2412 is that it has a heavy antiglare coating that bothers a lot of people. If using in a very bright environment, it may be the lesser of two evils to you, but you should be aware of it. Basically it makes the screen sparkly/grainy on light colored backgrounds.

While what was said about the AG is true, it's still a fantastic monitor for some people. I'm sitting here with two of them in front of me and use them quite heavily and enjoy them. I game with them, surf the net and do all of my college work on them (HTML coding, reading, etc). The AG coating really doesn't bother me. I love the 1920x1200 resolution.

I got one of these and the ag coating is much less noticable than the coating on my u3011.
