Dell U2412M vs U2413 (screen coating)

I need to purchase one of these monitors but have noticed in forums/reviews people talk about Dell's old Anti-Glare screen coating which the U2412M uses and how it is grainy, dirty, dark, whilst the newer U2413 has Dell's new AG screen coat which is described as lighter.

The U2413 is around £100 more for me. Is the screen coating really that much of a change for the greater?

Or in other words is the U2412M AG very noticeable in comparison with the new AG?

Also if you have any other advice regarding either of these monitors please let me know.

The U2412 has a grainy matte coating while the U2413H has a grain free matte or semi-glossy coating but neither are worth buying. The U2413 is meant to be calibrated and used with color managed programs such as Photoshop. The U2413 suffers from obvious overshoot ghosting (colored, transparent halo/glow which forms around moving objects) which shows up during normal desktop use and can ruin games and movies.

The U2412 uses low LED PWM Dimming Frequency (Side Effects) while the Asus PB248Q, VS24Ax, and BL2411PT do not use LED PWM Dimming or use high frequencies which do not cause issues. These monitors also have a lighter coating than the U2412, but but the coating is not as light as the U2413's.=DEAD= has reviewed the VS24AH and PRAD has reviewed the VS24AL

The Asus PB248QE and BenQ BL2411PT are also good, PWM Fre. They are all pretty similar but the PB248Q offers superior movie playback capabilities (chck PRAD's review) when connected to a blu-ray player.

I have researched a bit about both those 2 Asus you mentioned.
However I am still stuck with what to choose.

I am new on the forums and also new to this monitor world, However i want to ask is it just me or does this monitor research make you feel physically sick?

I am now 2 days into something I thought would take me around 1-2 hours max, I have spent around 14 hours(accurate recording, no exaggeration) with non stop research, and I am still nowhere, I read good reivews about one monitor, then before I finalize I come across reviews slating it, then I read about a better monitor, to find only more reviews recommending a better, then the whole cycle repeats itself, on and on.
How do you people cope? I think after another 2 more week of this I will have to get mental help.

I remember 6 years ago when I looked for a monitor, I am sure there wasn't this much variability available, and the variables which was available had a leading winner overall instead of being based on need(upscale HD vs full HD for example).

Back on topic.

I need my monitor mostly for coding(reading/writing text some web design GFX), I would also like to have the option for some gaming/movie time.
If you already have done your research, can you advise me a monitor for this need?

I can get the Dell U2413 or PB248Q at both the same price, the U2413M I can get for 80 Pounds cheaper.

I have been reading monitor reviews since 2008 and have tested many myself, so I know which aspects of performance I value the most.

The vast amount of screen real-estate 1440p monitors offer could be quite helpful for coding and reading but detrimental to game performance since 2560x1440 requires far more gpu power than 1920x1080/1200.

Knowing how much you want to spend, which gpu(s) you own/intend to own and if you want to max games graphical settings would help. Often buying 2 quality 23-24" 1080p monitors makes the most sense for those who want screen real estate but do not want to be constantly re-sizing windows and want games to look their best.

I have 2 GTX 780 classified. 16GB 2400Mhz ram, intel 4700k 1200 corsair PSU.

I want to spend around 200-450 pounds, but at the same time if one monitor is valued at for example double the price of another just because of a tiny difference, I do not want that monitor, I don't like supporting legal thieves.

As you mentioned dual monitor setup, I was considering a U2913WM(1080p), but I don't think its a good decision for a coder, the height of the screen is more important.

The 1440p you mentioned sounds good, but from my research the price jumped substantially higher over the 1080/1200 models.

In regards to going higher than 1200p and 1440p, what do you think of the Dell UP2414Q (3840 x 2160) for my particular needs?

The Dell costs £840.00 and by the time the text size is increased to a readable size most of the extra screen real-estate will be lost. The Dell U29 is one of the worst 21:9 monitors and 21:9 29" monitors are the same height as 23" 16:9 monitors.

Best 1440p Monitor list with review links. The iiyama XB2779QS and Viewsonic VP2770 from the list fall into your price range. You should also consider getting 2x 1200p monitors (2x BL2411PT or VS24AL) or 2x 23" monitors like the glossy Acer S236HLtmjj and matte Asus VX239H.

Yes the 29inch extra wide is a no go anyway, as for a dual monitor setup I was trying to avoid this.
As for the 840 pounds price tag of the 4k Dell, I can get it for around 680 pounds.

Edit : Thanks for the help NCX, I am going to get the 4K Dell. I believe my eyesight is good and I sit quite close to the monitor so the text size shouldn't be too much of a problem. User houkouonchi shared some direct photos of his monitor with text and so on and its great.
