Dell U2412M Mini Review

Just got my U2412M today. I've been looking for a 24" monitor for awhile and previously tried the HP ZR22w and Dell U2410.

The problem with the old Dell and HP is that they were both REALLY bright. I often work at night and need to be able to dim it down to low levels. I am not even exaggerating, I would wear sunglasses at night when working with them. The old Dell also had a pretty bad pink/blue shift from right to left.

This new 2412M is LED based and so I thought I'd give the new backlight technology a try since the monitors are on sale for $320. I think it's a hit! It can get quite dim, but if necessary I can crank the brightness way, way up. There are no dead/stuck pixels and everything looks quite even. It doesn't get hot. There is no buzzing.

There is a very slight pink/blue tint from right to left, but it is 1/10th what it was on the 2410 and I can definitely live with it (and forget about it). I do a lot of photo editing with Photoshop but I am not concerned about this small color shift. It also has a little of the typical anti-glare sparkling white effect, but this isn't too bad with the brightness turned down to normal human levels. Again, not something I will notice during actual use.

Finally, I think I've found a keeper.

I know this isn't a review similar to what you guys are accustomed to, but I thought this might help other folks in my situation make a decision. At $320 you really can't go wrong.
