I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been with Dell's return policy. I'm thinking about buying a 2001fp, and am interested to know what it'll be like if it arrives with dead pixel(s) or I just don't like it. Will I have to go through a big hassle to get an exchange or refund? Will I have to pay to ship it back myself? Anything else I should be worried about?

Thanks for your advice.

I just got this monitor last week from Dell.

It had one pixel always on, right in the MIDDLE of the screen. When playing Doom 3, it is honestly right in the middle of the crosshair.

I called tech support, and after about 1/2 hour of talking to the tech, explaining the issue and going though thier normal channels of debugging, they are sending me a new one (second buisness day mail)

According to the Tech support guy, they will keep at it until I am satisfied with the monitor.

I used this monitor all weekend, and I absolutly love it. No ghosting in Doom 3, Far Cry and City of Heroes. I also tried to the Unreal Tourney 2004 Demo and saw NO ghosting at all.
(I finally tested with the monitorsdirect lcd test) I am quite pleased, and with the customer service!

I can strongly recommend this LCD. This is my first LCD.

Their return policy is excellent.

I ordered the Dell 1703FP LCD monitor from them earlier in the summer (before I started reading these forums, when I thought that the 1703 was just as good as the 2001, and before I realized that the older 1701FP that I have was vastly superior to the newer 1703). While that monitor looks great (as in features and stand), the pictue has more to be desired. Text wasn't that clear, and it had soem sort of ghosting effect in games. I was away in Florida for a week though, and gave it another week or two to try it out.

It ended up, that I decided I would return it with only about a day or two left on the 30-day total satisfaction guarantee. I called up, said that I didn't like it, and they scheduled a UPS pickup for the return. They said that UPS would come to pick it up the following afternoon, but that came and went with no UPS pickup. Apparently the support person told us the wrong thing on the pickup time. Nobody was going to be home the following day though, so we called Dell up (that was late-afternoon on the day after we first called about returning) and theya greed to have it picked up the same night via DHS I think it was.

Dell has by far the best return policy around. I just ordered another monitor from them last week, the Samsung 710T, and am waiting for my fun. Unfortunately last week though they said it was back-ordered and would take 1-2 weeks before it was shipped, and now their site says 3+ weeks and the order status doesn't give me any estimate (the original estimate was in the confirmation email). Guess it's a very popular monitor . ..

Right now I'm in the middle of exercising their return policy. It works very fast, I've been getting replacements for my 2001FP's within a few days. No doubt they have a ton of these lying around.

Notice the use of plurals. The first 2001FP I received had several bad pixels, so I got a replacement ... which also had bad pixels. Now I just received my third 2001FP and it still has 3 dead pixels that I can see. This is very frustrating. I'm contemplating just getting a refund and buying a Viewsonic VP201B (black) or VP201s (silver) from newegg.

So, satisfaction with customer support: high.
Satisfaction with manufacturing quality standards: low.

A question for those of you that have used to return or exchange policy. Does dell provide shipping of the part, or is it you pay to ship to them they pay for the trip back to you?

Dell has paid for all the shipping both times I've returned things to them

Yeah, they've sent me new monitors with pre-paid return shipping labels. Just call up the carrier and arrange for pickup of the old one.
