Dell PS pinout

I have a Dell Precision 410 that I am trying to get to run with an upgraded power supply from PCP&C. I got their 425watt with the Dell wiring harness. Here's the problem. When I power the unit up, it says that the PS fan tach is reading 0 RPM, the fan is dead (which it isn't), and then it shuts down to "protect" the computer. Machine is flashed to most recent BIOS version, but there is no option to disable this stop error. Doing some comparison, I see that there is 1 wire missing from the PS from PCP&C. I spoke with a tech rep at PCP&C, and they said that it was unneeded, and was missing on purpose. I described my problem to them, and they are willing to wire the PSU fan tach to that lead, but that since it would then be a "custom" PS, that I would not be able to return or exchange it should it still not work. I've looked all over, and have been unable to find a detailed pinout for the Dell proprietary power sullpies, to see if the fan tach does go where the missing lead is. Has anyone else run across this situation and/or can anyone tell me definitively where the PSU fan tach reads from?

Thanks

EDIT: Precision 410, not Optiplex

Sorry couldn't help it.

Can you post some unique information from the PSU? FCC ID, part number, serial number, etc. Something we can google and get started on this.

Yeah...I'll post all that in the morning, when I get back to the office.

In the closeup of the converter on your linked page, see how the second pin from the right is missing? That is (I think...will verify positon tomorrow) the same the same pin that is blanked on my PS.

Ok...had a chance to power down for a bit to get some info. First off, the machine is a Precision 410, Service tag 1WWIY, not an Optiplex, if anyone wants to go look it up. Stock power supply reads as follows: "Dell Model NPS-300GB B Rev 3". There's a bunch more info mostly dealing with the rail voltage/amps and stuff and the serial number, if we need that later. I was also a bit off on the missing lead location. On the clip side, it is 4th from the right, while the Dell original has a brown wire here. I have successfully tested this PS on a Dimension desktop with zero problems, so I know that the wiring harness is not faulty, just lacking (oddly, it doesn't even pop a warning about the PSU fan tach....must not look for it).

One more thing. PCP&C info: Turbo Cool 425ATX model T42x-DE3.

Does that PSU even have a connection to tell the motherboard the fan speed? It may be possible to turn off that protection warning in the BIOS.

Also, your old PSU looks to be a Newton Power 300watt

Don't know. None of the documentation that I have found regarding Dell power supplies mentions anything about fan speed, but it MUST be in the main mobo header somewhere, since the Precision this is going on doesn't even use that funky Dell AUX connector...has an adapter to turn it into a couple of molex connectors.

As for the BIOS disable, I am running the most current version of the bios (have tried others, though) and I don't see an option to disable that stop error. I can disable most all other stop errors, but not that one.

If I were to check with a multimeter, what would a fan tach lead/signal look like? Or would it be going too fast (5000/min) for me to see anything other than a solid level?
