I have a question with the recent coupons and discounts with the dell printers... I am thinking about buying one of them... but does that mean I gotta buy ink carts from dell??? and I can't buy those cheapo cheapo ink carts like for epsons and so on?? :eek:
 
Last I knew Dells were rebadged Lexmark printers, so you should be able to just get regular cartridges locally. I will warn you that Lexmarks inkjet printers are not that great though.
 
from what I heard dell makes their own crap now...

so lexmark sucks?? epson #1 !! :)
 
From what I know, yes, Dells are rebadged Lexmarks. I have a Lexmark X75 Printer/Scanner combo. Ink levels NEVER report correct, cartridges are expensive as hell (as most ink carts are), and quality isn't as good as I'd like.

I'd say skip the Dells and get a good quality Epson or whatnot. At least get a printer that has separate color tanks. As you probably know, having to buy a $40+ cart for 1 fucking color sucks. Just my personal opinion.

It is my understanding that Dell is in bed with Lexmark, and the cartridges are proprietary.

We had a falling out with Dell once we topped them in sales and support ratings. They didn't want to sell a competitors printers. Now they rebadge POS Lexmarks, and use proprietary cartridges. Of course, most things Dell uses now are proprietary. Anyway, they're printer sales have declined tremendously since they've stopped offering HPs. So, as mentioned above, if you want an inkjet printer, HP and Epson are your only true choices. Some people will mention Canon, but if you ever use one, and take a look inside at the motors and parts....then compare the printer outputs.....you'll see why people stick with HP or Epson.
