Check this thing out!!!

Seems to me like you could set up a whole rack of these bad boys, with 3 dual slot graphics cards each, and control them all from a completely different room via the FX100 KVM type aparatus.

What do you guys think?

Looks pretty, but then I saw the prce tag. I'd still prefer going with a more standard rig that has a much beter upgrade path.

It seems, as with most pre-build options, it's nice, but you can DIY for less. Though the packaging may not be as pretty.

I don't know, an SLI capable 2u rackmount is pretty darn impressive. I'm just not sure who it's marketed at...

I'd be interested in seeing how well the remote solution works with this thing. If it really works well I could see this being used in areas where the noise off high powered workstations could cause issues. Still an interesting device. Also it has been a while since I've messed with 3d rendering but a few of these with some high end workstation graphics cards could make one hell of a rendering setup for smaller scale setups.

The FX series cards available with the system (570, 3700, 4600) all do, but the NVS 290 doesn't.

Rendering farm or as they state a GPU farm...not even close to reasonable for a DIYer but we do sell a rack full of rackmount WSs occasionally.

If you're really interested in some for folding, drop me a PM and I'll see if we can get you a discount. But you really can build your own rackmounts cheaper.

Yeah, a custom rackmount solution can definitely be cheaper. If you went with 3U, no riser necessary (I believe). Some of the 3U cases can take ATX MoBo's. Pick up the MSI P7N SLI Platinum, and 850w Antec TPQ and 2 9800GX2's and you've got a pretty inexpensive 4 GPU2 (+2 SMP if C2Q) box good for a very conservative 23K PpD. The boxen I've got spec'd out will run $1254 with 2 eVGA 9800GX2's + Q6600. You can find a cheap 3U Rack Solution and you'd still be under $1300 (the $1254 includes a case).

You'd be better off going with the DSEB then the older 5000p based chipset, it has 2 properly spaced PCIe 2.0 slots and supports the 45nm Xeons. Or just buy the Intel D5400XS, although it lacks large memory support.
