Just got my Dell Powerconnect 6024 off ebay..
Going tomorrow to buy a serial cable to connect to the rack...
Is there a way to get into it now? without a serial cable? :D

If its got a default config then I doubt it. I know they have to be initialized before the web ui will work.

That is assuming it is using the default IP. Why Dell ever decided to set it to such a commonly used IP I will never understand.

its common because everyone knows it, we all know that when we get a switch we configure it first THEN deploy it :) so in theory it's not that bad of a idea..

No dice...
Just noticed i dont have a serial port anywhere around this switch...

Can anyone suggest a good usb -> rs232?

This works well for me. If you need a cable, this should do the trick.

PL2303 chipset FTW. Just ordered another one of that exact model myself to keep in my bag. Aside from what Rocket linked, I also have a Keyspan USA-19HS that's never given me problems and worked everywhere I've used it (mac, linux, windows). Little pricier, but nice.
