Hey guys, I'm looking to pick up one or two of these PERC6 cards and I was wondering if they have the same motherboard compatibility as the PERC5 boards. The RAID 6 is so much more appealing than the RAID 5 option for the data storage that I would like.

The PERC5 and PERC6 boards use completely different logic to interface with PCI-E. The PERC5 boards use an external Intel IOP that has the PCI-E interface, whereas the PERC6 has an LSI SAS1078 chip, which has a native PCI-E interface built in.

That being said, the PERC6 has very good compatibility with most PCI-E chipsets. However, since it has a similar SMBUS interface like the PERC5, you may have to apply the "tape mod" with some motherboards that are finicky about the SMBUS implementation.
