hey
i just taught of this while i was surfing thru the dell website
they are selling dimension systems with the p4 that have HT, now that they have ht right, they also give it out with xp home ed. how do they allow xp to use HT? does the customer lose money and wont be able to take advantage of ht technology?

that's a pretty good question. I wish I had a copy of XP Home lying around so I could install it on my desktop to test it out. Its not just Dell either, other box OEMs do the same thing ship you a P4HT rig with XP home on it.

There you go people are mislead when they try to differentiate between a true multiprocessor system and an HT system. While home does not support two physical processors it does indeed take advantage of the extensions available for HyperThreading.

So do not worry, you will get the same performance with home and pro. The main reason to go with Pro is if you are in a network enviroment with domains.
