Dell PC refuses to accept disk image

Is there anything in the dell setup that keeps me from using a ghosted image in a new dell computer?

I have a hard drive that boots in a few different machines, with a stable and clean image for WinXP Pro and SP2. In all the machines other than the new Dell Dimension 3000’s, it will boot and get me to the winxp start screen. On the 3 dell machines, all we get is a blinking cursor.

A boot floppy wont even detect the hard drive at all. Is there a special BIOS setting or something of that nature that needs to be run?

(Note, we do not want to use the Dell image, just our own image with all of our settings and programs installed)

I would make an image of your drive after you ran Sysprep to clean out all of the drivers and what not.
Once it boots, it should do a mini-setup and all should be good.
 
Dont have sysprep... so that wont do.

Tried just putting old hard drive into new comp.. no luck (even after uninstalling old drivers)

I cant get the thing to show up on the system for a fdisk run.... so any windows problems shouldn’t be of consequence right?
 
sysprep comes with XP.
there was a link on here on where to get it and how to use it.
I just used it the other day on my main machine since I changed motherboards and processors.
 
well if this image has completly set up programs and everything that means it has all the drivers too, no? wihch means it is set up for the specific northbridge/ide controllers/ ect on the ohter machine.. which means if the dell machine uses components that arent comatable it wont work..
 
so you cant get any other hard drives to even show up in the new dells?

one of my room mates said that he had a similar problem with his dell, not sure what model, but i told him to make sure he had all his jumpers right, and he said that he tried all the different settings with the jumpers.

i ened up getting it working by switching the cable and setting both hard drives on cable select
