Dell P2210 for Eyefinity?

Hey guys.

So it turns out I can acquire 3x Dell P2210's for about $550USD. How do you think these would go in portrait mode for eyefinity gaming?

All I play is Everquest 1, CoD 4/5/6, and WoW.

Really thinking I like portrait mode instead of landscape, and they swivel/pivot etc, and the bonus of square relatively small bezels and the all important displayport connector.

thoughts? I'd need to purchase within a week if I went for it.

Would be upgrading from an Acer x243HQ and Acer P221w (23.6 1920/1080 and 22in 1680/1050); to 3150/1680

I am interested to see what people think as well.

I pulled the trigger last night on 3 x DellP2310hs. Mainly because of the "bang for the buck" factor. (680.00 for all 3, shipped). But I simply CAN'T stop thinking if I should spend an extra 300.00 for the 3 X 2209WA.

The 2209 seems to be THE one everyone here agrees is the one to get for under 300.00.

My MAIN concern was, since I will be running Eyefinity with a 5970, is the DP-DVI Dualink adaptor VS. getting a monitor with Displayport. (the u2410 is just OUT of my budget at this point.) That is why I settled for the 2310h.

Dell just emailed me saying they need some addtional info -I am debating switching my order when I do...I am just REALLY concerned about viewing angles in portrait mode (which is where they will spend MOST of their time.

I plan on on having SOMETHING next week, so I'll let you know which way I go and how it pans out.

I too would love to hear from someone who has a setup with 3 dell TN panels in portrait mode. I won't be getting mine in the mail till the 17th and won't be able to use them until after christmas (bought 3 P2210Hs). If the viewing angle problems in portrait are unbearable, I'll just keep them in landscape, not that stuck on portrait.

I just ordered these but they won't arrive till Jan 15th. :( How have they been Caducus? I can't find any reviews on them really.

I'm sorry to say that in the end, I returned the P2210Hs for 3x 2007FPs. The TN panels weren't unusable, but the viewing angle issues required the monitors be in a very specific angle to where your sitting. If you move even a few inches, you will see clear distortion at the edges of each side monitor. I played with this for about two weeks, and while it was far superior to a single monitor, I wound up deciding the downgrade in size and resolution was worth it to not have to sit completely still at all times. I am happy to say that Dell has a decent return policy (though in the end I'm out $100 and the cost of the DP cable for the set). I was able to return the monitors and get 3 2007FPs, which run at 1600x1200 and are IPS panels. I got them refurbished and they were actually cheaper in the end than the P2210Hs. I hear that the revisions prior to A05 on the 2007FP have problems, so I paid a little extra to be certain I got the A05 revision monitors. I'm using the DP -> VGA adapter fix. Can't find the exact post, but you can buy the adapter from monoprice and it works. I will however eventually be buying a DP -> DVI adapter as the VGA adapter causes the monitor it's attached to to flicker on and off for 5 min or so after booting, then the problem disappears. It seems like it's an ATI software problem that will hopefully be fixed before I buy the DVI adapter.

I built my own monitor stands, as you can see. I didn't do as good a job as I would like, but it was much cheaper than buying 3 arms, which was the alternative. I'm probably going to head to Ikea and get 3 stands eventually, but these are working fine for the time being. I wanted 3 stands instead of 1 big one so I could (somewhat) easily switch between landscape and portrait (landscape for NFS shift, Dirt, etc. portrait for RPGs and shooters). Also, I don't see an easy way to mount the 2007FPs to an arm, though it may be possible.

So far I've noticed a very large difference between the IPS panels and the TN panels as far as color quality and depth, as well as no noticeable viewing angle issues. The only problem I've had is with the DP adapter, which is not the fault of the monitors.

Above is a picture of the P2210H setup. The monitors had to be at that angle and no other angle to be viewable, which has them all facing over your left shoulder.

The above is the new setup with the 2007FPs. The bezels are more noticeable than the P2210Hs, as you can see, though this is less of a problem in landscape mode, due to the lack of the silver strips. Overall, each setup has it's strengths and weaknesses, but I'm happy with what I have now. Hopefully, ATI will fix some of the problems with software updates. Please forgive the crummy picture, the monitors + 5870 have left my bank account fairly empty and I can't afford a decent camera. I'm not complaining though. ;)

Hmm that is some good info, I've been looking for good first-hand accounts thanks. After turning my current 1080P monitors sideways and leaning them up against the wall just to get a feel for it I'm inclined to think I'm not going to use them vertically as much as I had originally intended. However I'd still like to have the option and I really am fairly easy to please. I just don't know of any other LCD's where I can get displayport and pivot and be out the door paying $183 per new LCD like I did on the P2210H's.

If you call dell small business I believe you can get the 2209wa for 212 shipped. It is talked about in the 2209wa thread. If you can get them for that price I think it is the best way to go.

Ok. If you contact either one of these people and tell them you got there name from hardforum they should be able to give you the 212 price.
