Dell P1130 Questions

I have Windows 7 and when hooking up this monitor it shows up as "Generic non-PNP monitor" even though I installed the latest drivers (from 2001) though. Also, the max resolution that is showing up is 1920 x 1080 at 60hz. I am using the i5 4670k's GPU which is the HD4600. Do I need a dedicated GPU to see the other resolutions ( 2048x1536 )?

Right now I have it set at 1280 x 720 at 100 Hertz.

Anyone have any tips on how to configure this monitor?

Could this be one of those things where you need to increase the minimum amount of memory it has available in the BIOS?

Alternately: what motherboard do you have? There's something in the back of my head about a weird quirk to using VGA output on Intel's newer HD graphics but I can't find anything on it. Maybe it's a limitation of the motherboard's VGA implementation? My particular board (Asus Z97I-Plus) lists a maximum supported resolution of 1920x1200 via VGA, but 3840x2160 via displayport.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't at least let you do 1600x1200, though. And widescreen resolutions on a 4:3 screen is a bit odd, too - what 4:3 options does it give you? Anything other than 1024x768?

I had the same problem on my dell have you tried the CustomModeApp.exe. in the drivers folder and creating a custom resolution of 2048x1536 this is what worked for me.

try using toastyx's CRU to create custom resolutions. If you're still having problems, try using moninfo to create an INF file and use that as your driver, and then use CRU or nvidia control panel.

Using Custom Resolution Utility I was able to manually add the following resolutions:

1600 x 1200 @ 100Hz
1280 x 960 @ 120 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz
1920 x 1440 @ 75 Hz
2048 x 1536 @ 75 Hz

But how do I make the monitor display those resolutions? When I click the resolution and click on "OK" the resolution does not change. I am using a HD4600 GPU that is on my i5 4670k, I understand that it won't play games with a decent amount of fps on higher resolutions but I am just testing the resolutions out.

My motherboard is Asrock Extreme 4.


Also, it seems that I can't input refresh rates higher than 120, even if I lower the resolution, why is that?

I went to C:\Windows\System32 and clicked on the Intel application named CustomModeApp.exe and entered one of the resolutions above but none of them work. I now get the following message:

"The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity".

How do I increase the bandwidth?

ASRock's website says it supports max 1920x1200 @ 60hz out of its VGA output.

That's the Z97 version (which I assume you meant) but the Z87 lists the same.

It may just be a limitation of the onboard video's VGA output capabilities. I know Intel was planning to remove analog output support from GPUs/chipsets, there's news from back in 2010 saying they wanted to have that done by 2015, so there could be something related to that as well (maybe dependent on however the motherboard manufacturer implemented the VGA output).

Do you have another video card with VGA output you can use to test it?

I think the CRU only works with nVidia or ATI GPUs. Get a real graphics card and test it. You also need to restart the driver or reboot the computer after you install the resolutions in CRU.

All right looks like it's time to save up for a MSI 970, in the meantime I'll keep busy by playing Max Payne 2 at 85fps with beautiful ink black colors. It feels like cheating when playing CS:GO, everything is so silky smooth at 85fps and there is no lag. I used to get killed so much now I can actually fire at people without being shot at first.
