Dell - Nvidia 6800 GTO ; Help

I just bought 2 new computers from Dell for my Wife and I. Both 3.4ghz PIV, 2gb ddr ram, (2) 74gb raptors raid0, and one with a 6800 GTO and another with the ATI X800 XT.

Just ran 3Dmark03 and got 9711 on the GTO machine and 12062 on the 800XT

From what I read I can attempt to enable the 4 other pipe's and overclock the GTO. I have downloaded that Rivatuner and successfully overclocked the GTO to 400mhz core and 1003mhz memory, ran the benchmark again and recieved 10806 with no graphics bugs.

My question is, how do I enable those last 4 pipes? I have been searching but have not found a "step by step" how to.

Please assist!

Man, am I ever interested in this thread. I've been waiting for Dell to provide a 6800 GT option - meanwhile, I've been considering their X800 XT option.

Those numbers between the two machines are quite a bit apart - especially if you're hesitant to overlcock, or tamper with the settings.

I hope your wife is happy, and if she's not... uhm, would you consider marrying me?

Well, the x800 series has generally always had the upperhand versus the 6800s in 3dMark's synthetic benches. That doesn't necessarily represent the actual difference between them in current games. Either way though, if you're going to go Dell, now is the time, with all of their pre-holiday deals going on.

If they ever do offer a 6800GT in one of their systems I'd guess it probably won't be until early next year when PCI-E GTs are more readily available.
 
I would never buy a Dell configured with a 6800 GTO, because no matter what day I bought the card on, the very next day Dell would offer a 6800 GT option - as Rod Stewart once said, some guys have all the luck, some guys get all the pain, some guys get all the breaks, some guys do nothing but complain...
 
Ok results from my 2 Dell Systems:

First one:

3.4GHZ
2gb DDR
(2) Raptor 74gb Raid0 SATA
X800 XT - Default Clock out of box

Now with 6800 GTO - 402 Core / 1003 Memory (no artifacts, stable)

Problem though, when I try to mask the 0, 3 using Nvidia Tuner, it still shows them disabled, even after reboot... :(
 
Ok now with the X800 XT overclocked some:

It seems the last batch of 6800GTOs that came from dell you can't unlock the last quad. Not because it's bad or artifacts, just because rivatuner can't do it. I have a thread going over on guru3d to the maker of RT. Anyway your 6800 3dmark seems low, on my 3.2p4 I'm getting almost 10900 stock with the 6800GTO, might want to look over that computer and see if you missed something.

Also try the 66.81 drivers on the gto.
 
that sucks, i might return the graphics card, and upgrade the other to a X800 XT
 
Dell? Kill it with lasers! :D Sorry, couldn't resist. I would advise against enabling the extra pipelines, as there's a pretty good change one (or more) of the are damaged. Flashing back/disabling, may disable the wrong 4, leaving you with one (or more) active damaged pipelines. Or, there's alsways the chance, that the core is a 6800GTO, because it failed the test for the a higher frequency, but I wouldn't count on it.
 
My bro tried unlocking the 4 pipelines with his dell 6800gto also but noticed artifacts in 3dmark03. The benchmark still completed and he scored 10600. Seems like not many dells are able to unlock the extra pipes.
 
The GTO problem is nothing, a friend of mine has a Dell that doesn't even have an AGP slot. And no, it ain't PCI-e... just several plain PCI slots. :eek:

Doesn't everything but their budget line have an AGP slot :p
