Hi, the IT department of a local university is selling off one of these units and I thought it might be fun to set it up at home. However, I am unfamiliar with FC and SAN networks. I do have Microsoft DPM 2012 which is supposed to support this tape library.
The library has 3 LTO 4 drives each with a FC connector and the library itself has a bunch of Ethernet jacks.
I think I am supposed to connect the drives to a SAN FC switch, but I am unsure how the library gets connected to my network and also how I connect the FC switch to my network. Do I need to get FC NIC's for my server running DPM? Do these need to be special SAN NICs?
Also, is the control of the library (eg moving the tapes around) via the FC connector on the drive or via connection to the library?
If anyone has experience deploying one of these and can offer some help, it will be greatly appreciated. The unit is big and heavy and I would hate to bring it home only to find I'm in way over my head!
Thanks, hammer8
