Yesterday Dell made quite a few announcements of new products and changes to their lineup including colored notebooks and a new XPS laptop dubbed the M1330. The company is making an attempt to bolster their laptop sales.

Dell's new notebooks come in colours with names such as "flamingo pink", "sunshine yellow", "alpine white", "ruby red", "jet black", "midnight blue" and "espresso".

Wow, that M1330 with bluray doesn't look that shabby. Hmmm...

The Dell email yesterday mentioned the new Inspirons coming in different colors. Who cares. Maybe they could boost sales if their laptops didn't feel cheap and far from sturdy, and the rubber feet didn't fall off so easily.

Colors or not, it's still Dell.

^^

The E1520 with 8600GT is pretty nicely priced.

I have two Dell laptops now and love them both. ;)

I agree the color thing isn't such a big deal. I think Dell's sole problem is they aren't on retail shelves. Most consumers probably won't just order a Dell laptop without seeing it or playing with it.

We all know HP laptops are far from stellar as well, but BB is lined with them.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. Hell even without it. Options like an led display and solid state drive are nice to see as well. Plus you can get it without intel graphics. I like it.

It's a sweet little device, that's for sure.

I am a sucker for small electronics.

I think thats one of the reasons. Even people such as us enthusiasts, have a hard time justifying 2k dropped on a device without seeing it or hearing reports from others about it. In store items just makes the deal a sold case... because you can get it now without waiting and it's something that you have felt and tried out.

Good point, I bought mine after playing with a friends. The second one was for my wife. This recent purchase I made solely on my previous experiences with playing with them.

I was pretty excited about the pre-launch hype around the XPS m1330, it being a decent-looking, decent-spec'd Dell and all (especially since I get a small student discount). However, I can still do better with an Asus barebones z35f 13.3" notebook since I care more about battery life than performance.

Page says:

"The initial appearance was on the Dell Canada site and now its on-line to buy via Dell USA, the new features include an extreme amount of colors, 2x hard disk configurations, GeForce Go 8600M GT graphics, nice 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, SSDs, Blu-ray optical, slot-loading and LED-backlighting."

Dell's site says:

"All XPS M1330 LCD panels are 13.3 inch WideScreen (1280x800) Displays with TrueLife."

Boo hiss.

I can get a legit 6 hours out of my E1505 with RM Clock and the screen brightness turned down.

I have a T2400 in this one.

..and 8400GS graphics max. And I wouldn't call 3 (white, red, black) and extreme amount of colors.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I really, really want a 13.3" display. I might do 14.1".

The one I got for my wife was the 14.1 and thus far she is loving it.

I did pony up for the 9 cell battery in both, but have not gotten my hands on the new laptop to do the underclocking experiments.

I would however assume that the Core Duo in hers will perform just as well, if not better than mine.

I caught that too, but for 1/4 of a second I thought "Damn, how small are those icons?"

I have the XPS m140 (wussy graphics), 14.1 True Life 1280x800, 9 cell battery. Wonderful screen, lasts 8+ hours on battery.

I just saw an ad on TV the other day. It was a Walmart ad, and they were showing off the Dell computers they now sell. ;)
