I want to know which one of the LCDs are better. Obviously the more expensive one. But are there major differences between the 3 LCD panels that they offer. I have heard that the UltraSharp has better clarity. But I do not know much and would like your opinions.

Which laptop are you looking at? The difference is resolution most of the time.

Some are aslo clear screen vs. anti-glare coated. Dell calls their clear screens TrueLife. The TrueLife is great for movies and games, but causes glare in bright light.

I personally swear by my true-life display. If you keep the screen clean, the glare isn't so bad, unless your face makes the proper angle to bounce the sunlight.

If you mean Sxga, xga, and Uxga, it is all about resolution. :) Uxga offers a higher res than x and s, and x coming up close 2nd.

WnGA (n = variable) is same thing, but wide screen.

Beware the uber high resolution screens on small sized laptop displays....

You may think you have no problem reading font that is about 6 point size...but you will...unless...you actualy do read 6 point font all day long.

I had a WUXGA on an 8600 for a while...that lasted about 3 months and I bought an WSVGA 6000 instead.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to buy a E1705 or E1505. But maybe I'll wait for the next sale.

The 17" High res True life screens I great for movies. I love the "wet look" I call it that. Colors are spot on. For text it is small, but its not bbad and you get used to it.

I just got my E1505. It has the SXGA Truelife screen. I am infinitley glad that I went with the highest resolution screen available. This thing is amazing. I thought I would have issues reading the text, but it's so sharp and clear that it's not an issue at all. This thing is awesome.

The glossy screens are almost CRT-like in clarity. In bright sunlight, a standard LCD looks faded and washed out. I have an Alienware with the glossy screen and it's head and shoulders above the matte LCDs.

That being said, XP is pretty good at dithering screen fonts etc. these days. Get a screen with a max size that you can live with, if it makes things too small, lower the resolution in the display control panel until you can see the details you need to see. I do that with my AW and the picture quality still looks decent.

Yeah! It's truly awesome.

What is the reasoning behind the "Wet Look"?

It reminds me of SONY Desktop LCDs its very crisp and sharp looking + that wet is nice.

Who makes these Dell LCDs (17" True Life)?

I really really like mine!

To give better color definition in bright light. An LCD with a matte finish reflects more of the ambient light in a room, making the screen look washed out and flat.

if you're worried about the usability of a certain resolution, run out to a comptuer/electronics super store and get an idea.

there will be some nuances along the lines of brightness and sharpness, but you can see how much you like a certain resolution. don't forget to try the large/extra large font settings in windows.

I got my E1705 last week and got the upgraded LCD for it and I have to say this much..its the best looking LCD display I've ever seen. It blows alway the 2405FPW I have hooked up to my desktop and the Display on my old 600M. I was amazed at how good it looks.

As for people complaining about high resoultions on a small screen, try setting your Fonts to Large fonts...it makes a world of difference. I had normal fonts on my 2405FP when I got it and noticed E1705 had large fonts enabled and I just changed and it makes reading much easier now.
