I have an older dell inspiron 1525.short story, kids thought it was a step stool.Powers on but the screen is whacked,i can see bits of the screensaver but not enough to access anything.I tried plugging in a monitor using vga input and got nothing,i then tried the hdmi out to my tv and still got nothing. Is there going to be any way to get a remote screen to work without having to go into settings because obviously i can't do that, hate just throwing it away.Thought i could just use it to watch hulu or netflix through tv.
thx

Did you try closing the lid with an external display connected? I know on at least one old laptop I dealt with closing the lid would default to an external display if one was hooked up.

Unfortunately I think it was a toshiba, or maybe an acer? Ymmv.

thanks,i didn't try but will when i get back home.i think this just puts computer in sleep mode though

There is an lcd-monitor button (normally function key (Fn) and F8). After plugging in vga or hdmi, press this and it should cycle through lcd\monitor\tv

Thank you, this worked after a couple tries,i was worried that it had more damage thab just a screen but it looks ok now on the remote monitor
