Im having problems wit my doom3 game and my new laptop. The first disc will get to a certain part and stop and not ask for the second disk. it just hangs at the one spot and the task manager says its Status is running. Ive installed doom 3 on my 2xdesktops with these discs but i am having problems installing on this beauty of a laptop. When i called dell tech support every sulition he gave me didnt work, i over heard someone say to the guy i was talking to "you cant fuckin fix this?". the dell guy was a moron he wanted me to copy the dell disk 1 contents to a folder and try installing it from there....he also wanted me to share my C: drive on the network and install from another computer.

no clue. First thing i would do is reinstall windows. If that doesn't fix it, you probably got a hardware problem.

I can definitely say it's not a general problem with Doom3 and an Inspiron 9300. I had no problems installing either Doom3 or the RoE expansion.

If you still have mcafee viruscan installed, the pause could be the program scanning. Whether or not you need a virus scan running all the time depends on how careless you are about running, uh, programs that *need* to be scanned. I always remove all of the mcafee security center apps since it slows down the laptop.

It's also possible that you have a bad optical drive. Try copying the contents of the CDs to the hard drive. If that fails, clean the CD(s) and try again. If it still doesn't work, you probably have a bad optical drive.

well we did do a clean install of XP PRO, also it does hang when copying the contents of the drive it hangs at 20 seconds left on the pak file. I also updated my drives firmware.

sounds like a drive problem, i've had that happen while using an old generic optical drive to install large games. but i assume in your case the drive is new, so it may be defective

you wouldn't happen to have an external optical drive to try? if not, i suggest borrowing one and try that way.

also, have you installed any other (large) games using the same drive? and are the discs you are using legit, or burned?

I installed UT2K4, Diablo 2, Halo, on this computer but doom 3 will not install... I can install it on both my desktops fine but it hangs at one part in the installation.

None of those others use SafeDisc 3.20 (UT2K4 & Diablo 2 = SecuROM, Halo = Safedisc 2). ;)

Which drive do you have? Teac, Samsung, NEC or ...? I have the Teac in mine.

try run alcohol 120 and image the discs to a virtual drive and install off that

It's a bad drive then. Make them ship you another one.
