Well dell yes, was going to ask if anybody knows whether or not if the Dell HD's will work on a 3rd party mobo that isnt intel. Cause i want to upgrade my setup cause the 2400 doesnt have an agp slot on it, so j/w if i would be able to use a differ mobo with my Dell HD.

To the best of my knowledge none of the OEM's are using anything in the consumer level besides IDE and SATA. Dell's drives are not propriatery.


 
Well then.. im hoping your right, cause if i pay $100 for a new mobo i dont want to jack in the IDE drive and it not boot to the os. Dell is a lil' crazy so im just a lil' worried about getting messed over because of some trick like that, so i guess i will go ahead and purchase the mobo.
 
Yes your Dell Harddrive will work with any motherboard. I know the dell I have opened up over the years have been Seagate, Maxtor and Western Digital and I have taken them out and moved to other computer with ease. Just check the jumper settings on the harddrive sometimes dell sets it cable select instead of master or slave depending on you setup.

Not sure what your trying to do here...Your HD will work in any system, But if your trying to put a different MOBO in your 2400, you will more than likely NOT be able to do it. Dell uses propritary parts....the stand offs are not standard, and most of the time the power connectors are not standard.
 
Also, it won't just "boot the OS" with a new motherboard. Generally you have to reinstall when changing motherboards. That being said, if you head over to OSes, they have a procedure for avoiding a reinstall.
