Is it possible to replace the controllers in a PS4000 with the Type 7 from PS6000 series?

No. The PS4000 Can utilize Type 8 Purple, Type 9 Yellow (If you have the latest firmware) and Type 12 Purple/Magenta (If you have the 4100 upgrades)

Thanks for that, I'll know definitely in a couple of days, I should have asked the question before I ordered the controllers. At the end of the day they won't be wasted, I have a PS6000E too anyway. The connections definitely look the same. I'll keep my fingers crossed though. I have a Dell server that Dell tells me only supports 16GB RAM that has been happily running for over a year with 32GB :)

Absolutely it can take a Type 7, in fact the GUI now shows it as a PS6000 series rather than a PS4000 series.

It seems to be working abolutely fine, no problems whatsover.

Every time we tried putting a 7 into the 4000, we ran into issues. Twice when upgrading the firmware they were locked out on upgrades, once it just started panicking a week in.

I'll be putting them back in a 6000 chassis but just upgraded both type 7 controllers to 8.1.6 in the 4000 from 7.x.x
