My friend got a deal on one of those deal sites like fatwallet with coupon for a Dell Dimension e520n. It has a Intel C2D E6420 cpu, 1GB ram, ubuntu linux os, 20" 2007wfp dell widescreen ultrasharp monitor, intel onboard video, 320gb sata harddrive, 16x combo drive, etc. Right when he got it he installed Windows XP on it. He said he paid $700 or so with shipping. He already had 2GB (2 x 1gb sticks of pc6400 g.skill ram) and he purchased a 8600GT video card for around $100 or so & installed it. He also tried overclocking it with clockgen, don't know how that went. But all in all he got a pretty decent rig w/ 20" ultrasharp widescreen monitor for about $800 total. I tried to configure a system from newegg with that same monitor & it was hard for me to match the price.

Great article as always...very nice to know about the limited graphic card space in the Dell Dimension E521. I was going to get one to replace my again Athlon 64 3800+, but guess I'll have to look for another vendor with enough space for a gamer graphic card.

Guys look at the outlet center. I just scored the following E521 for Cheap

Brisbane 4400 2.3GHZ
2GB (2x1 DDR 667 sticks)
250GB SATA II HD
DVD+RW
Combo DVD/CD-RW
Vista Home Premium

for 450$ total with shipping and tax

I have a Audigy 2 ZS and a X850XT on the way to make a nice 530$ PC. If I were to build this, not sure I could get close with a real OS, Case, ect...

Well if you are not a hardcore gamer, it has room for any mid range card, and even loner cards, but they must be single slots coolers. When I get my computer and have the X850XT installed, I will snap some pictures to give you guys an idea what would and what would not fit.
