Been doing some research into getting a laptop, but saw these cool things people been talking about and trying to get more info on them.

Now correct me if I am wrong, this thing works as a mini computer, correct? It picks up on wireless connections (I.E in my house), and does not go through a cell phone provider, right?

Also what are its capabilities, from what I have researched, it seems to be able to do most stuff other computers can do, serve the net, download files, play music, etc. That all true?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, been googling stuff and using search function here, but already gone through about 200 posts and still am some what confused.

Best two resources I know of specifically for the Axim are:

I can tell you that you can do almost anything with the Axim. Short of playing popular multiplayer Internet games or watching DVD's (which, BTW, you can easily rip to a file playable on the Axim), anything you can do on or off the 'Net on standard computers you can do on the Axim -- even read Usenet posts and IRC!

Yes, you can browse the Web, though not all sites are PPC-friendly; and no cellular carrier is required. I connect via Wi-Fi to my own access point, as well as MANY others (Midtown NYC is FULL of 'em).

this thing does work like a mini computer. they have speakers, ram, rom, a TFT display, internet capabilities, wireless options, memory expansion options, and touch screen input.

yes, it goes through your home network. it is really easy, well at least for my ipaq 4150 it was. you just turn the wireless on, see what networks it picks up, it will ask you which one you want to connect to, you choose your network, and then enter your WEP key. and there, your on the web.

yes, it can download files BUT they must be, well if your downloading programs, made for the PPC obviously. you can download short movies, music, as long as it's for WMP, or if you have real one on it, and yes, you can play music on it. i love playing music on mine actually better than my mp3 player. you can turn of the screen to nearly double your battery life, assign hardware buttons to something like up/down keys and for volume up/down (like i have it) left/right d pad keys do next/previous (like i have) and also, playing it through the speaker is also good, the speaker on my 4150 is supprisingly good and i sometimes just play it while it's in it's cradle while i'm at my desk.

you can actually play dvds on it though. i'm not sure the name of the program, but i've used it before, you can compress an entire dvd movie into like 100mb or less or something to put on your memory card. it's actually pretty cool. you can use it for appointments/PIM apps.

you can overclock it/underclock it.

overall, i love my PPC and until my 4150 dies, which i've had it for over 3 years, nothing will replace it.
