you might run on for a long time
run on, ducking and dodging
run on, journey, for a long time
let me tell you God Almighty gonna cut you down

Sorry, that was OT, LOL, but I couldn't resist... I hope somebody here can help ya...

I'm not sure how a PocketPC would end up with no OS installed on it, unless there was a failed ROM flash or something like that. You might try doing a hard reset of the device (if I recall correctly, you need to hold down the power button while pressing the reset, then following the instructions on screen for that.)

No I really got this from a friend and the IT people did something to this Dell AXIM X5 and I have no idea what it was they told him they took off the os and all I had to do was put it back on. I bought it for $100.00 from the company but I'm not sure it was a good idea lol.

I tried the hard reboot but it did not work thanks anyway.

If the hard reset didn't work, it's dead and you were ripped off.

Pocket PCs all have embedded OSes, meaning it's in a PROM. It can be updated with patches and flashes as they become (and IF they become) available but there's no way to 'remove' the OS and reinstall it. A hard reset (on Axims, take the battery out, push and hold the reset button and push the power button once, insert battery and turn it on is how I do it on my X3i) should restore it from the PROM if it's still good.

If they tried to flash it with the wrong file or the flash failed, only Dell is going to be able to repair it for you. I'd see about a refund personally.

OS is in ROM, READ ONLY MEMORY even after a hard reset the OS is still there but just back to factory settings, you got jacked, that PPC probably had a bad ROM update and now nothing is on the ROM go back to the guy and get your money back, if not kill him and take it back
