Google has failed me, just thought I'd see if anyone here had any info on its release or specs. I'm getting ready to build a new gaming rig to replace my aging E6300, 7600GT, and mammoth CRT. The 3008 seems like it would be good enough, but if the 3009 is LED and bypasses the scaler at native resolution I'm happy to wait.

The 3009WFP has been rumored for almost a year, but there's no solid news on when it'll be released or if it's even for real. As for the 3008WFP, the scalar IS bypassed at native resolution.

Is this something that was changed with a revision? I could swear I've read in multiple posts while lurking here that it doesn't, with nobody ever refuting such claims.

Nah, the 3008WFP still has the input lag even at native res.

The 3008 has input lag. Whether you notice it is entirely subjective. I've not seen any lag with any game I've played during the 5 months I've had my 3008. The built-in scalar does not activate at native resolution. It kicks in whenever you choose a resolution other than 2560x1600. You can have your video card handle non-native resolutions when you're using the LCD with your PC.

Sure wish a 3009 could manage to come with a white led backlight.

Dell said "all" models would have led options by the end of 2009, but as 2009 passes, I don't see the 30" line getting much love.

Oh well :(

Rumors have it, that they are skipping 3009WFP in favor of 3010WFP-S which has an AMOLED panel and will go around 2500 usd

That would be an amazing LCD. I wouldn't drop $2500 on it, but by the time I'm ready for something to replace my 3008 in 2-3 years, maybe the price would be more reasonable.

I seriously doubt that the 3008WFP replacement will use an AMOLED panel.
IMO, LCD H-IPS + LED backlighting seems much more likely.

AMOLED - yeah that and the bridge that's for sale too. OLED might almost be ready for some consumer products but it will be many years before it will hit the 30" 2560 panel market. Cost would be huge and the processes necessary to guarantee that so many pixels remained bright for any kind of a reasonable lifetime would be even more added to the cost. So I surely hope you wrote that sarcastically :)

LED backlighting, specifically white for the cost benefits and added brightness over RGB units, is the way to go. Problem is, 30" panels are such a small market, that it's unlikely to get to these panels till late in the game. Thus we all sit and and wish for them, but they don't appear. They certainly have the sizes ready since they already are used in larger sized TV's, but for us mere 30" folks, it's going to be a while I fear.

Only hope is that Dell promised LED backlights across its entire size range of LCD's in 2009. But given half the year is gone, and the delays in manufacturing, if there aren't even rumours yet, I don't think it will really happen in 2009. Most of the industry news says that nearly all panels will be LED backlit in 2010 if that's any consolation. That could mean the lowly 30" market gets LED in 2010, or it could be just the mainstream. So even 2010 might be too soon. But I'm hoping :)
