Gents,

I have a quick question for you. I am considering buying a Dell 3008WFP mainly for playing XBox 360 but also for working on and watching some TV . I have been reading conflicting reports on the 3008WFP and it's suitability for gaming (due the lower quality scaler in it compared to the Gateway XHD3000, but that isnt available in the UK so that's not an option for me :( ).

The other option is to sacrifice resolution (from 2560x1600 to 1920x1080) and get a HDTV.

What do you guys suggest? I guess for the cost of a 3008WFP I coudl get a 32" 1080p HDTV and a 24" 1920x1200???

I just cant decide

The 30" would be a huge waste of money to connect it to a console since you can't take advantage of the high rez the monitor will offer you.

Go for the largest quality 1080p display you can afford for console gaming.

If you can get a 32” TV and a 24” monitor for the same price, then I guess that is the best solution. You get a 2” larger display (but the overall impact for movies and TV will be even bigger since the TV is 16:9), a TV tuner (you cant watch TV on a monitor without a tuner ;) ), and a dual monitor setup with lots of desktop space.

You'll sacrifice resolution, but then again you are getting (1920x1200 + 1920x1080 = 4.37Mpixels with a total area of ~ 700 square inches) instead of ( 2560x1600 = 4.09MPixels with a total area of ~400 square inches).

You are quite right...something interesting has caught my eye though. The Dell SP2309W.

23" @ 2048x1152. That would be pretty nifty for work and not stupidly large, plus they appear to be very reasonably priced @ approximately £220. I wonder though, Dell have a habit of releasing a monitor and then shortly afterwards releasing a "refresh" of that same screen but with a higher colour gamut and more inputs etc...this monitor is apparently set to be out in early January so I think I might hold fire until then.

Also, with reference to a TV tuner, I have a USB WinTV which can receive Freeview digital in the UK.

Ok,

I think I have settled on getting a 32" 1080p TV for my console gaming needs and some light PC use. In addition to this I think I will also get the 23" 2048x1152 Dell or Samsung once they are released and I have seen some reviews.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which HDTV I should get? I am considering the following at the moment:

PANASONIC TX-32LZD80
PANASONIC TX-32LZD81
PANASONIC TX-32LZD85

and the

SONY KDL-32W4000

Over on AVForums one guy reckons the Panasonics are rubbish if used as a PC monitor (which I would want to do occasionally), can anyone confirm or deny this?

Any help much appreciated.
