I noticed the other day when i was cleaning the screen that the screen is somehow being pushed up against the inside of the bezel. (heard a clicking noise) It's kind of springy.

When I push on the edge the light leakage come flowing in, when i let go, the screen comes back up against the inside of the bezel eliminating ALL light leakage.
I check all the edges and there is no light leakage. So i guess my question is, Was it designed this way? Becuase it works!

[Edit: Should've darkened my room before doing this test. Now corrected.]

On my 3007WFP-HC, the same thing happens in various areas along the edges, but everywhere along them. It's strongest near the top center and lower-right corner.

Is it the same on your 3007WFP, or do all of the edges glow when pressed?

On my 3007WFP-HC, that does happen if I press near the top center. Everywhere else, the screen is just a tiny bit springy, and temporarily gets smudged darker if pressed. This along with the fact that this LCD is hottest on the top center makes it pretty apparent that the backlight is there.

Yes, on my 3007WFP-HC, it happens at the top right side and all the adges glow when pressed.

I wonder if putting those edges under more tension would reduce backlight bleed.

The way it is now...I have zero backlight bleed. I turned off all the lights in the room, set a black background and looked for leakage. I'm very picky when it comes to this and I cannot find any. I got lucky i guess.

My 3007WFP-HC has gray backlight bleed in the lower-left and lower-right corners, which can be quite distracting. It has dark purple backlight bleed in the upper-left and upper-right corners, which is pretty unintrusive.

The bleed varies with angle of view — if I move my head away from a corner, the bleed in that corner gets stronger. So I've raised the monitor above my eye level to minimize the lower-left and lower-right bleed. At a certain viewing distance the bleed goes away completely.

So the 3007WFP has (or can have) zero bleed? Nice... but of course the 3007WFP-HC is better than it in other ways. Does anyone have a 3007WFP-HC with zero backlight bleed? How about the HP LP3065 — how does it compare with its 3007WFP-HC cousin in the backlight bleed department?

I do have the 3007WFP-HC and not the older 3007WFP. I had the newer 3008WFP too and i like the 3007WFP-HC better.

It's possible to get a 3007WFP-HC without backlight bleed?! This is news to me! How far away do you sit from the monitor? Is it above or below your eye level, or dead on? Is it tilted perpendicular to your axis of vision when pointing your eyes at its center, or tilted up, or tilted down? Or does none of this make any difference?

My 3007WFP-HC's backlight bleed is not really "in the corners", in fact it has nothing to do with the corners. It has to do with the angle of vision.
Looking perpendicularly at any part of the screen, it's baseline black (dark gray with a blue tint relative to the monitor's white point).
Looking down and left or down and right at any part of the screen, it takes on a gray tint (with a tiny bit of reddishness).
Looking up and left or up and right at any part of the screen, it takes on a dark purplish tint.
(I measured these colors with my digital camera, because I'm color deficient.)
Sitting close to the monitor, every part of it has a significantly different angle of view. If I sit far enough from the monitor, then every angle of view tends towards perpendicular, thus the backlight bleed goes away.

How about yours, tommyxv? Also, what revision is it? Mine says "REV A02" on one of the two white stickers in back, underneath the serial number.

 LOL...return it.

Yeah, I might do that if I'm convinced there is a real difference... it's funny, I had just decided not to return it because the possibility of safely converting it to glossy just started looking hopeful.

Tommy, I'd be hugely appreciative if you could tell me what happens when you move your head while looking at a totally black screen on your 3007WFP-HC. Does it get at all brighter when you move your head in various directions? And do you see backlight bleed in the corners when you put your head close to the monitor?

Also it would be extremely helpful if you could tell me what revision yours is... (white sticker on the back of the monitor)

I am thinking that you might just have your 3007WFP-HC placed much farther away from your head than I do, which would mean yours could be just the same as mine. I'm sitting only a couple feet from mine, and I scoot back farther to watch movies and TV.

What your describing is not backlight bleed...
Backlight bleed has nothing to do with the angle, so the best way to see the backlight bleed is to view it straight on and if necessary keep some distance between you and the monitor.

What you are describing are more of the white-glow issues etc. that the very most IPS screens suffer from.

And yes, the screen can flex inwards somewhat and this is by design - so that it can cope with heat expansion when it gets hot for one.

Thanks brumwald, that clears up some confusion I had been having.

My 3007WFP-HC has zero backlight bleed (although it does bleed when pressed near some of the edges, as described earlier).

tommyxv, does your 3007WFP-HC have white glow?

After every monitor I've been through, (TN's IPs, PVA, etc) (20", 22" 24" 26" 30") There is no 100% perfect monitor. There are good ones out there that are a cut about the rest, so I have just accepted that and I'm happy with the quality of the one I have now. The OLED technology hopefully will add a better option.
