so im having a bit of trouble deciding which i should go with.

i know the 2408wfp uses a s-pva panel. i actually bought one of these for about $500 revision a02 (hopefully solves most issues). but im considering selling it when i came across a hp lp2475w for $550. the lp2475 is an s/h-ips panel as most of you probably know.

i will be primarily using one of these monitors for gaming/movies/and other everyday tasks on the web. reason why im leaning towards these panels is because they have component video inputs as well as a buncha others including dvi/hdmi. i have a ps3/wii i will be sharing with on this monitor, which is why the component video input is important to me.

please share with me your reasoning as to why i should or shouldnt be getting the hp and selling the dell. all feedback highly appreciated. thanks.

PS: forgot to mention that my L246wp has overscan/cropping issues when playing content with the ps3 via hdmi. i would like to avoid these with the next monitor.

After a month of thinking about it and researching I bought the dell over the hp (yesterday actually)

I got the Dell for $430 (Canadian) and the HP would cost ($740) (tax not inc.)

If it wasn't for the big price dif, I would have gotten the HP simply because of the better viewing angles, and the horrible black crush on PVAs. The HP support is supposed to be a lot better.

If your not doing a print or photography then I think you will be happy with either one. Might want to look into which one is better for gaming, the dell has input lag that some people complain about.

dude, where did u get such a deal for the dell monitor?

not sure how to ask this appropriately, but here it goes...

so since its about $50 difference, is it definitely worth more than that in terms of value/performance?

also i was looking at the nec 2490wugi (lol) here:

and i noticed this image featuring the lp2475w:

also, since both monitors are wide gamut displays, will i be able to do anything about the oversaturated colors and whatever else that comes with it?

here is another example:

is this an issue both the hp and dell as well?

thanks.

Dell has sales every month in Canada that go on for 7-9 days. The 2709 was $550 the other day.

That image comparing the angles between the NEC and HP is very misleading, I think they have the wrong monitor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3WZ5QAvF6M This is a much better representation on the viewing angles for the HP.

For the wide gamut oversaturation issue: It can be fixed by calibrating your monitor. The monitors you are considering are geared towards graphics/photos/print so you are going to need to learn a thing or two about wide gamut.

In conclusion I would purchase the HP over the Dell for $50 for the following reasons:
+ HP support seems very good (business class)
+ Better viewing angles (ref: Prad.de review and TFT central)
+ No black crush
+ I think the HP is a bit better for gaming
+ Slightly better black levels

Search in google more for HP vs. Dell threads and the response is overwhelmingly in HP's favour.

thank you for all that info. that has helped tremendously. aside from the positives you listed, are there any negatives on the hp's part, or anything the 2408wfp has that is positive over the lp2475w? also, anybody know anything about hp's warranty through private sellers? is it transferrable with the monitor or do i have to jump through hoops just to get it fixed when the time comes?

thanks!

I think the only area where the Dell beats the HP (other than price) is contrast, and not by much.

Both the Dell and the HP seem to suffer from quality control issues, every monitor is different and you may get a really good one or a bad one. If you check out both the big long monitor threads at HardForums you will get a good idea on what each of the monitors suffer from (Dell: Black light bleed and lag and HP: pink/green tint, weird text issue)

The warranty is something I am not sure about and something I would certainly not risk voiding my warranty. LCDs can be prone to all sorts of issues and with the amount of money your going to lay down I would call HP or Dell and ask.

yes im aware of that, thats why i been spamming/checking their monitor page everyday for the past month. And i only seen the 2709 for 599 for one day back in the beginning of the month... When was this "the other day"? And their price always seemed to be ending with a 99, so either 699 or 599. Where did u find the deal for 550? :S

It was in the business section of the dell monitors, checkout redflagdeals and someone will post a thread when the next deal is out (probably in a month or so).

The only problem with Dell is that they built my lcd 2 days after I ordered it, so I will have to wait about 2 weeks for it to arrive.
