Dell 2407? Good for gaming?

Im very close to ordering this to replace my current 19" CRT monitor to compliment my new Core2Duo build and XBox 360. Had the 37W3 but found it too big for everyday usage+gaming from a feet away. The larger pixel size also kinda bothered me at times from sitting too close:(. My perfect size would be a 27" but the Dell one is too expensive for me to justify the cost over the 2407 for 3 inches.

Now before I pull the trigger, I've read mixed user reviews about the Dell 2407.
i) Some say its more than decent and they whole-heartedly recommend the panel.
ii) Some say there's noticable ghosting (Im into FPS so thats important)
iii) Some, who, probably dont own the set, but bad-mouthing the set based on other's reviews:rolleyes:

So for once and for all, is the 2407 a good monitor for gaming and everyday usage?? Note I'll be playing mostly XBox 360 (via VGA, set on 720p), PC FPS/RPG's, DVD's off the 360, surfing, some multimedia.

Highly appreicated:)

I had dell 2405fpw for year and half, and never had any problems, or noticed anything out of ordinary...besides noticing input lag once a while while playing games...but it does not bother.

My previous monitor was the 2005FPW and there was some ghosting.
I play a lot of FPS (Half-Life2, Oblivion, FEAR, QUAKE, ...) and the 2407WFP does a great job. I do not see ghosting and I do not feel any input lag either.

The only disadvantage is the graphic card requirement. A 8800GTX (or at least a 8800GTS) is mandatory if you want to play with AA and AF on. My 1950XTX had performance issues with some games.

The 2407 is quite a bit better than the 2405, although the both have issues with losing shadow details in the center. The 2405 is significantly worse in lag, tearing and input lag, although the 2407 still has noticeable artifacts in all three areas in demanding games. I have both.

I'm planning on replacing the 2405 with a P-MVA panel (probably the Benq FP241WZ) as I dont like the dark center and strong twinkling in any kind of video playback.

These issues are common to all big LCDs, and the Dell is not particularly bad. It wont display 1920x1080 without stretching from a PS3 / X360 in case that bothers you.

From what I understand the 2407 doesn't have the crappy viewing angles the 2405 has. I would upgrade just for that alone.

I've heard some decent things about the Gateway 24-incher. You may want to consider it in your decision.

Rev A04 allow 1:1 for 1920 x 1080 :D

Read the Gateway 24" thread and it seems that panel lags the same as the 2405 so 2407 should be much better in that respect...sorry dont have a link.

Thx again for the helpful replies.

Without starting another thread....how does the 2407 (Rev 4) fare against the 24" Benq?

I have the same question, I play a lot of quake, and really the only LCD i tried was terrible (Westinghouse LCM-22w2) it had ghosting all over, and blur.

I would go for it. 2407 is a lot better than my 2405 I had and it was great in gaming.

Man...just read the Newegg review of the BenQ panel and it seems it clearly beats the 2407, hands down, except in one area ....1:1 mapping, since 2407 Rev04 has officially fixed it but it appears Newegg is still shipping out the older batches for BenQ (with no fix).

And 2407 (can be negotiated to $650) also comes with a standard 3 yr warranty where as BenQ ($782 with tax) has one year manufacturer.

Still undecided between the two

I am in the same boat man... AFAIK, PIP on BenQ 24" won't accept HD input (DVI, VGA, Component and HDMI), which is a killer to me :(
