Dell 2405FPW Help please

Right I like the sound of this monitor, and I really want one but would like to know a few things before I spend my money on one.

1. Is this monitor really good for games? Many people have said that monitors such as the Viewsonic 191b or the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ are great for games because they don’t ghost, but in actual fact they do ghost as I have had both these monitors and have not been happy compared to a CRT monitor. Also what is the motion blur like on this monitor, is it very obvious or hardly noticeable? (This is when you’re walking around and the background blurs) Preferably I need an enthusiastic gamers view on this as I take my games very seriously when it comes to getting pixel perfect response without distortion.

2. Also what is this monitor like if, say I want to run the resolution at 1280x1024. Does it stretch this resolution all across the monitor or does it display the picture with borders? Or can you do both?

3. What are Dell’s return policies like if I have dead pixels or backlight leakage, will they exchange the monitor if I am not happy with these things?

I hope somebody can help me as I really do want to get myself a really great monitor

1. Yes, really good for games. Hardly any ghosting/motion blur etc.
2. You can do both (the option is available from the LCD menu)
3. I beleive it's somewhere within 20 days that you have to respond that you want a new LCD, and then you get a no-questions-asked new monitor (rarely someone at their support may refuse, just point them to Dell's total satifaction policy - then they have to comply), after that timeperiod you may get a refurbished one. :)

I'll comment on ghosting:

Yes there is some trailings of images/blurriness/ghostings in CERTAIN areas. If you look hard enough you'll be able to notice them, but for a 24" panel, you are not gonna find one that's better than this Samsung.

Thanks for the link, I did flick through many of the pages on this forum for this monitor (There are so many). I thought that I would just ask about the gaming aspect for this monitor as I think this is an essential issue.

Ok so you say there is a little ghosting in "Certain areas”? Could you tell me where? Also how noticeable is it really? Be as harsh as you can please.
Let me give you an example of how I need an accurately sharp response, lets say I am playing Unreal 2004 and somebody is running right past me at close range, I need to see that target accurately so that I am not mistaking that trailing for the target and end up shooting thin air. Will this monitor give me that accuracy or will it at times ghost costing me a kill or 2?

Also if anybody can do a test for me please. In Quake II (Blast from the past) right at the start of the game as you go down the ramp. There are 2 lights on the wall. What I want for somebody to do is strafe left/right while fixing your gaze at one of these lights. I want to know if you see any ghosting in this area?

Just as an example I have a Hitachi CML174SX TFT, this is by far the best flat screen monitor for gaming despite its rated 16ms response time. It does not ghost at all, not even a little bit or in certain areas. I recently tried out the 19” version of this monitor but frankly it was no where near as good (I have no idea why as I thought it should have been the same technology) The only problem is its too small for me at 17” that is why I wanted to invest in this fantastic looking Dell monitor.
Please give me more opinions on this monitor people and please take your time out to do the Quake test.

I know I’m fussy but I hope that if I do get this monitor I will not buy another for a very long time
 
If you are this close to buying one, I would go ahead and get it for the $840 price (with coupons if they are still going ... they will be back so just wait.... see deals section). I would almost guarantee you will be very very happy with it. If not, Dell has the best return policies going, so you shouldn't have a problem giving it a test drive for a week or two then return it for a refund.

If I did want to return it, would they send a courier out for it or would I have to pay postage costs myself?
 
Is this all the opinions for gaming on this monitor that I am going to get? Come on peeps, give me your opinions for gaming on this monitor. I know there are lots of threads about this monitor but I would like my questions answered please.

Allot of people are saying this is the best monitor for value as it’s allot cheaper than any other 24” monitor but I’m not shopping for a bargain monitor, I want top quality for gaming, movies and anything else you would expect from a top CRT or TFT monitor, so please I want as many opinions on this Dell 2405FPW

they send a courier, or atleast if they dont offer just pretend to be really upset and they will

its a high quality display and has minimal ghosting if any. Personally i havenet had any issues, the biggest thing is making sure you graphics card will handle the high res but if not it will look great and work flawlessly
