Dell 2405FPW DVI issues

I can't get DVI to work..i'm not sure if its a compatability issue or something else.

Here are the facts
I had a GF4, everything including DVI worked fine except it looked like crap, as in it seemed like all the colors were banded together...It looked like I was only seeing 1000 colors or so.. (I think because it had a max DVI resolution of 1600x1200) so I upgraded to a vanilla GeForce 6800 and now I can't get DVI to work at all.

I know the DVI port on the video card works since I used a dvi>vga adapter and that works fine, and I know the DVI port works (or maybe worked) on the 2405FPW since I used it with the GeForce4 with no adapter. I have tried two different Dell cables (one for 2405fpw, one for 2005fpw) and they both don't work.

If I have the cables plugged in, the monitor goes into standby mode (orange LED) but if they are not plugged in, it stays in "Self feature test mode" or something like that where it shows the 4 different colors. I have been screwing with it for days, probably spent over 10 hours trying different things..I have tried with both VGA and DVI cables in & VGA cable out, it just won't work!

Does anyone know what I can do? I really want to use DVI :(
 
That is indeed very very weird. I assume you have the graphics card's molex connector plugged in, the latest ForceWare drivers installed and the 2405FPW's .inf file loaded. Other than that I really have no idea what to think of this... maybe you have really bad luck and the LCD got damaged somehow... but that's pure speculation... I hope someone here has a bright idea... :(
 
I do have the molex connector in (even though it's not in much, I didnt want to force it very much) - I wonder if this could be an issue? I just updated to the latest forceware drivers yesterday with no luck, and I did install the 2405FPW inf driver from the CD - but I see from that link you gave me was updated 3 days ago so I installed it, but it shows the driver date as the same day of my old ones (12/20/04)..I will try to get it working more tomorrow

My first thought was it might be an older style dvi cable, but I see you are using dell supplied cables. Make sure you have the latest driver installed and I would try to connect your pc with that same cable to another monitor that has dvi to make sure the dell monitor is the problem. After verifing that everything else is fine then I would call Dell for a RMA.

Using a DVI-VGA adapter doesn't mean that the DVI port on the card is good. A DVI port on a video card has two sets of pins: one for digital and one for analog. The VGA adapter simply taps the analog pin-set, so the digital out on the card could possibly be bad. I'd try another DVI monitor with the card.
 
Yah try the monitor on another computer or vice versa, also are you using a 6800 with two dvi's, are you using the left plug, you cant use the right one that is for dual.
 
Well, it looks like it is the video card..I hooked up another DVI monitor and it still doesn't work, and I know it worked via DVI on my old video card..so I guess I will try to RMA this through Monarch or eVGA..

are you using a evga 6800 gt? im using that and my 2405 is fine, wierd
 
I am using the non-GT version, but I don't think it matters..I may have just gotten a bad card (hopefully thats the case if I do send it back, so I don't get one with the same problem)
