Hi... new member here... hello all!
My question... family member's monitor is failing and they are very much tempted by a 24" LCD, just not by cost. I currently have a Dell 2405FP which I have had since about the week that Dell began shipping these things. It's been in use many hours a day (work monitor) and has never, ever let me down... no dead pixels, wonderful picture quality, lots of screen real-estate. I've been more than pleased with it.
Anyway, as this family member isn't particularly picky (just wants something with lots of space for Word/Excel) I thought about gifting my 2405 to her and taking the opportunity to purchase something new in the same 24" range. What I wanted to know is whether things have changed substantially from the 2405--are 24" displays markedly better now or has the improvements been mostly evolutionary or subtle? Most of the larger displays I've seen in the big box stores haven't impressed me much versus the 2405, but maybe the models that really are superior aren't available in retail?
I'd like to know because if there has been a big leap forward, I might upgrade and let a family member take mine; if not, I might just give some cash to said holiday member as a small holiday gift toward her buying a model on her own.
My usage is a lot of video/photo work and general desktop apps; occasional gaming but I'm less picky about gaming quality. (Mostly just world of warcraft.)
