I have a Dell 2405FPW, My problem with the monitor is playing DVDs, The component cables work great with the Xbox playing a game but scrambles when you try and play a DVD and then shows a "No signal" message, A normal DVD player with component cables has the same result, In all the other posts about this there was no real answer. Is this a setting problem? is it a broken monitor? do some DVD players work? or is this just a design flaw that cant be fixed? I was hoping to play DVDs off the xbox on this monitor if there is a way to do it please fill me in, thanks ~Dell support was no help~
 
You can't play DVDs with Macrovision encoding through the Dell monitor with most DVD players(component). You can use DVDshrink and rip the DVD to your hard drive and play it with a software player with the DVI connection.
 
I had a replacement 2405 sent to me cause I had a few dead pixels (stuck on when black) anyhow, the component inputs when in use with my HD Cable box causes the monitor to have a high pitch whining and lines through the picture. My current 2405 works fine, beautiful picture, and no whining.

Call dell and have them send you a replacement. It may take a few attempts, but you will get something better.
 
Is the Macrovision problem across the board with every 2405FPW or is it only certain people having this problem? I'd like to use my DVD player directly into the component so I can use PIP and work and watch movies at the same time. I know there are certain ways around the problem but that equals more time + $. I haven't heard anyone with the new 1.8 revision mention any macrovision problems, I guess I'll see in a couple of days.
 
Apparently the component ADC they use doesn't filter macrovision, the macrovision signal goes through to the gm1601 chipset and confuses it and cause sync problems. It's basically a design fault they may be fixed but the problem is we'll never know if they put a better component ADC. If you want full featured component you might have to look elsewhere.
